You truly look like a totally different person, congratulations on your success. How much weight did you lose? Did you workout? What about excess skin? I still haven't had surgery and just want to know what to do in order to be successful at it.

To D1NOnlySexyLady,

i've lost 79 lbs to date......goal was 70 lbs. Yes, I do workout, it will Totally help with that excess skin! I do have a small amount of excess, not noticable to anyone but me, This was not easy to do, you must follow the eating plan set forth by your Dr. and follow it if you really want success. Even now, after i'm at goal, I still eat the same as I have for the last 10 months, and planning on it for life. I still stay away from all breads, pastas, candy, chips, junk food. I make healthy choices now, even tho I might prefer something different.

Good luck if you decide to have this surgery, remember, it's a new way of life, not just till u reach goal. bad habbits must go away and never return.

Thanks for all the kind words, I feel 10 years younger!

Thanks for taking the time to answer. My doctor has not really gone over a eating plan. What was yours.

My Dr, gave me a binder full of info such as:

Pre surgery instruction

surgery and discharge

phase 1, liquid Protein

phase 2, soft food diet

eating methods and Fluid intake

activity and behavior modification

general guidelines & support groups

follow up

This binder has been my bible throughout my journey.

My eating plan outlined in my binder talked about what I should be eating at what stage i was at, and what foods are "allowed" and what foods to "avoid" there was also a very helpful page on foods that are a "good source of protein" (very helpful) along with many helpful hints through out......

I guess I assume that everyones Dr gives out this info for all their patients, but sounds like some leave you to figure it out for yourselfs. :(

Best of luck to everyone, nice to know I have inspired several of you. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
