Phat girl 6 Posted March 27, 2012 i just completed day1 (did it twice in a row) of couch to 5k and am in pain. Not exhaustion pain. Pain in my stomach area and Slightly nauseated. I'm seven months out and have been walking a couple times a week prior to this incident. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Lissa 2,631 Posted March 27, 2012 Slightly nauseated could be because you didn't drink enough Water while working out, or you ate too close to when you worked out. Stomach pain could have a number of causes, depending on where the pain is located. If it is inside your stomach, then it could be related to the nausea. If it's in your abdominal area, then you could have loose skin bouncing around while you work out and that can definitely cause discomfort. You could also be holding in your stomach while you exercise, which can make the muscles sore because you are using muscles that you haven't been using before. It's also possible that you are being too ambitious by starting the C25K without having done other cardio to improve your ability to breathe. I still have to really concentrate on breathing when I'm on the exercise bike because I have a tendency to want to pant instead of taking in deep breaths and then giving a full exhale. I'm finding that I have more energy to finish if I work on breathing properly instead of panting and huffing and puffing. The panting/huffing leaves me feeling achy in my core and diminishes the quality of my workout. When I breathe properly, I feel the burn in my legs and glutes instead of in my stomach area. Good luck and keep up the good work!!
Phat girl 6 Posted March 27, 2012 Thanks for the responses. I had only had mayb 36 ounces of Fluid yesterday before working out so that might have been the problem. In retrospect, I shouldnt have done the C25K twice in the same day. I just felt so good and had some extra time. Next time I will just do some light weight training. @ Lissa I didn't consider the bouncing skin. You've given me a lot to reconsider before trying it again. Thanks!! Lissa 2,631 Posted March 28, 2012 Phat Girl, and you ARE definitely getting PHAT ... I dont want to discourage you from exercising. I just want you to get the max benefit from it so that you dont have to work twice as hard. My pulmonary doctor tells me that proper breathing makes the exercise more effective. Since I'm spending hours on the exercise bike and treadmill each week, I definitely want the max benefit. I'm planning on doing the C25K when I get to a better place physically for me. I think it will be awesome!
