Peanut Butter? Pureed Or Not Pureed? That Is My Question...

Recommended Posts

I swear I searched for this in all of the posts, but didn't find my answer.

Can I have a little Peanut Butter on a spoon during the pureed stage? I am three weeks post-op and I must admit I am having trouble with pureed foods, and I've been still eating a lot of yogurt and drinking shakes and powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury broth; however when I cross over to food, I'm probably eating soft stage food rather than pureed.

I need more options. Any thoughts on peanut butter?

I've been eating Peanut Butter by small teaspoons since week 3. No issues with it for me but I may get yelled at by my nut. We'll see on my appt on the 2nd. Can't wait for some soft foods. So tired of Soup, egg beaters, and ricotta cheese.< /p>

Thanks for the info. I am in the same boat with the Soup and eggs. I think I'll try ricotta today!

I started eating teaspoons of Peanut Butter the 2nd week and it was ok with my Dr. Has Protein and since I started getting hungry the 2nd week, just a teaspoon of it helped satisfy me. Just make sure not to drink with it. It was tempting for me since peanut butter makes me so thirsty. But I didn't give in and 5-10 minutes after I eat it, the thrist goes away.

The reason for the pureed food is for safety in healing your surgery. The Peanut Butter texture is fine for that. I was told at that stage that I could have some peanut butter, but not a lot because of the fat. Of course I got the low fat Skippy.

Thanks everyone. I am sure this is normal, but the pureed stage is rough. I have only one more week, which I think I can handle. Looking forward to a bite of Peanut Butter tonight!

I am two weeks post op and HAD to have some peanut butter! I went to the store and was so excited I opened it my car and grabbed extra crunchy instead of extra creamy! LOL. I went back for the creamy and I can eat it fine at 2 weeks. Only 1 tablespoon though

My foods list has Peanut Butter on the "no no" list. Awfully high in fat. That said, I've enjoyed a bit here and there - I just don't make a habit of it. It's some good Protein, and if I'm feeling a little icky I just toast a piece of bread and do a thin layer of PB . . . it's perfect.

You can order PB2 online. It's dehydrated peanuts and you can mix it with Water to make Peanut Butter with way less fat. It's a powder so you can put it in stuff too.

I ate Peanut Butter as soon as I was off liquids.

PB2 sounds great...I just looked at their site. How much would you put in a Protein Shake? is the one with chocolate good, too?

I have used PB2 in my Protein Shakes. I put about 1 tablespoon. It gives a nice flavor, but for some reason it thickens my shake, and that I'm not fond of.

Out of curiosity, how do you mix it in? Doesn't it get all hard if you put it into a cold shake? Do you use a blender or just a spoon to mix?

Blackberryjuice, it is PB2 is powder; so no, it doesn't get hard, just mixes like the Protein powder. I have also used regular Peanut Butter in a shake years ago, and it didn't get hard either.

I use a blender, just a cheap one serving blender from Target.

Oops, sorry for the typo, I didn't proofread (obviously).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
