J, congratulations! on your upcoming surgery this Friday :huggie: I'm sure you're excited and maybe a bit anxious?

Dr Spivak was my surgeon also, he's a very caring Dr and I had a great experience. I wish the same for you.

I have to say what suprised me the most was how sore I felt the next 3-4 days. It was an effort to get in/out of the car, etc. My best advise is to take it easy for at least 5-6 days. Hopefully you don't have to report back to work the following Monday. And, get the pain prescription filled and do as they say - take every 4 hours as needed for pain. It helped me rest and I slept better (in my recliner) than I otherwise would have. At the end of the 3rd day I began to wean myself off, taking every 6-8 hours and a smaller amount.. when you get your strength back and begin feeling better, you'll know when to stop the Rx.

All the best,

I'm posting on the TX site and wondering if anyone has had an experience like the one I have scheduled. I'm going in to be banded and branded on Sept 11 and am also having a hiatal hernia repaired. Dr. Sewell in Southlake is orchestrating. Any feedback out there?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
