Ok so I just thought I was "sad" at first but now I am coming to conclusion that I am depressed. Like stay home all the time, sleep till really late (it's 1pm and writing this in bed) skipped my training session, house is a mess, low sex drive, nothing makes me happy depressed. I hate this feeling, I want to just shake it off. Just don't know how.

hi iliana82

i can some what relate to being down in the dumps from WLS, i just wanted to respond to say i care.

from your profile i see you are going through very hard health problems, so i'm sure this understandably adds to your sad feelings.

As far as your weight goes, your off to a great start by seeing a trainer, excercisng. You've already lost a bunch of weight. Congrats on that.

I'm sure you are working on eating better, thus the sleeve, healthy and improving yourself inside and out.

i am lucky enough to have insurance cover for paying a therapist. Are you able to seek the help of a therapist? Maybe a pastor, rabbi?

Please post again,

Good luck - we are all here for support concerning our WLS.

Please take care

best wishes

kathy

I understand depression is pretty common after bariatric surgery. I had a relatively mild bout with depression about six weeks out from surgery also. Seems odd, because we should be happy we're losing weight. But I think it's partly because we have a new normal and we're missing our "friend" -- food. We also can't eat much at that point because we're still healing. I didn't have any energy for the first couple of months either.

Please talk to your physician about it -- you may be depressed or you may have a Vitamin D deficiency or something like that. But your physician should be able to determine that. The symptoms you describe definitely sound serious.

Take good care of yourself and let us know how things are going ...

Carol

I've been struggling as well. I'm only two weeks out as of tomorrow but I have been a mess. My doc requires a clear liquid diet for 3 weeks after surgery - I have 9 days to go. I struggle with liquid and Protein and I feel completely defeated at the end of every day. I knew this wasn't going to be easy but I could have never expected to feel so disconnected from my old life. Tonight I went to make dinner - and then remembered that I don't eat. I cried for 20 minutes. I can't wait for things to get better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
