Hello New To The Site :)

Recommended Posts

Hello, My name is Ana and I had sleeve done on December 15th. I previously had lap band done in December of 2009 managed to loose 70 lbs, but was stuck for 8 mos and had port complications the whole time. I am glad I did the sleeve so far, my recovery has totally gone way better than my prior 3 surgeries this past couple of years. I hope to finally reach my goal of 130 lbs. I am 5'1 and 34 yrs old. I am happily Married and have a 15 yr old daughter and a 9 yr old son. I hope that we can be a support to each other in this forum! :)

hi anna

welcome to the board.

we are all here for lots of support, and hopefully answer or give you the floor to ask any questions. If the question needs more medical response than we will advice you to call your doctor.

By the way its a small world, my DOS is also 12/15/11 - how about that?!

Talk to you later, get acquainted with us, don't be shy, and see you at the Water cooler.

best

kathy

Welcome Ana :) Congrats on being sleeved!! We are about the same height (i'm 5'2") and I'm also hoping to be in the 120-130 range (though my ticker reflects a goal weight of 115, which i picked strictly because it was in the middle of the normal BMI range). I'm glad to hear that your recovery has been good for!

You have definitely come to the right place for support and info!

Oh, and in case no one else made it official- Welcome to the Loser's Bench :)

Hi Ana,

I haven't gotten my sleeve yet, however I am scheduled for my band to sleeve revision in June.

I am right at 5' and am scared to death that I'll get discouraged because I'll be a slow loser because of my height/BMI. Did you lose regularly at a decent rate?

Thanks, terri

I had my band removed and 6 weeks later had sleeve. And I think I have had a slow weight loss since of a low BMI, but it has been a steady loss. I usually go 2-3 weeks without loosing on the scale and then loose 2-4 lbs and then again 2-3 weeks without loosing etc. I can tell you though that I have been loosing inches more than the scale moves. So I can't say I am not loosing because the inches and sizes are going down constantly. Now I have not exercised and have not been faithful with my Protein intake, so if you step up more than I do, you might loose faster. Good luck!

Hiya Ana and welcome to VST!!

I too am a revision from band to sleeve, and I too agree that my recovery was a lot better with the VSG. Or maybe just that I already knew what to expect, who knows.

Wishing you well as you continue to recover and with that all the wonderful results the sleeve can give! Stay strong and positive, you WILL get to your target weight. Cheers!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
