I guess this self explanatory lol... I truly understand that many individuals post-op are no longer able to stomach the foods or drinks they most loved Pre-op. so tell me what have you substituted your old favorite for? What's your new favorite?

To be honest, I haven't had any problems, I can pretty much eat the same foods I have always enjoyed. The only thing I found is I have to be careful with milk products, at times, my body acts a bit lactose intolerant, at others, it is fine.

I eat pretty much everything, except bread, rice or Pasta. I still having a hard time with bread or pasta. I tried brown rice once and it was ok. pancakes or waffles too :( They were my favorite pre surgery. I can eat potatoes as long as they are soft :). I was lactose intolerant for like the first month. Now I am fine with milk. Really sugary Snacks make me sick :( I am having a hard time with chicken too, weird, I can eat sirloin steak ( has to be soft ) but not chicken yet. I Haven't substitute these things for something else yet on my diet.

I can eat pretty much the same stuff as I did pre-op, but I'm much more Protein focused now.

So I have lowfat cheese and lunch meat, greek yogurt, and soy milk (can't tolerate regular milk post-op).

Since I eat so much less than I used to, I'm careful when buying fruits and veggies. I like the small tangerines because they are a good snack size. I also like the bagged spinach, because it's easy to just throw a little in a Soup or sandwich, or wilt some to go with a hunk of grilled Protein. I buy frozen berries now because I wasn't eating them fast enough to finish off a box of fresh ones before they spoiled. I buy loose veggies, like a handful of brussels sprouts, or a zucchini.

And for drinks, I mostly have Water throughout the day. But I wasn't a big soda lover to start with.

I eat whatever I want. I will say that I try to eat out less (pizza, burgers, fried chicken) and make better food choices, but I have had pizza post surgery and everything was fine. I have been able to tolerate everything I used to eat before surgery. That is one of the main reasons I chose this surgery over some of the others, because I didn't want any food restrictions. I eat all the same foods I did before, just in much smaller quantities.

I keep cheese (string, laughing cow, squares and whole blocks), lunch meat (budding Turkey and deli meats too), milk in my fridge. I have tilapia, shrimp, frozen veggies and fruits in my freezer. I keep beef sausage bites, nuts, tuna and Soups in the cabinet. I drink Water and Decaf mostly, besides my 1 shake a day. I work from home so no packing a lunch but still go for easy things, no time to cook a meal during the day. I have found if I make black Beans I can freeze a few servings. I used to drink soda (diet coke) but have not had caffeine since July 2011 and don't want to start again. I have tasted decaf flat soda and it just doesn't interest me!

The biggest change in my fridge is the top shelf used to have diet coke 16oz bottles on it & now there's 14oz rtd muscle milk there instead. *sighhh* I miss diet coke. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
