sorry i didn't see you questions till after I posted. they went around the room and everyone introduced them selves and told what theyhad started at and how much they had lost and what type of surgery. then a guest speaker told us about glycemic index and how to read labels. then it was mostly questions and issues they were having. I asked most of the questions cause I was the only one in the room who was Pre surgery. they had people who were a few months out all the way to one woman, who I believe god sent that night just for me, who was 18 years out and was surfing the internet and found that support group and decided to come.

Wow! 18 years out?! Had she kept the weight off? I'd be happy with a good ten years of weight loss! Ha! Well, we all deserve to do good things for ourselves! I'm a firm believer in that. I keep thinking I'll do this and think why didn't I do this at 35 rather than 45! Oh well... Better late than never! Yep, 7K is a lot of money, but it will be worth it. I really hope the ins approves it, but if not, I'm already thinking of plan b!

she was up 30lbs from her goal weight but still under 200 and looked good. I agree about the age thing I am also 45 and wasted many many years thinking I could do it on my own. My sister in law's ins didn't cover anything and she had it done in August by Dr Felix Spiegal in Beaumont, Tx for 14k for everything dr hospital the whole thing. i hope you get approved soon. me too for that matter I am ready to begin this process

Hey, I wanted to just check in on you and see how your process was coming along! I had an endoscopy last week! Yuck! It requires sedation. As a result, I was diagnosed with GERD. I thought I was kind of healthy until I started this journey.

Hey y'all...mind if I join? I'm in the Baton Rouge area and had my 1st appointment with my surgeon last week. I'm currently fighting with Aetna to have him covered at the in-network benefit since there in no 'participating' provider in Baton Rouge. Can you believe that?!

I'll turn 43 in a couple of months and I too have tried for years to 'do it myself' to no avail. I've been thinking about this surgery for 2+ years now and I'm at peace with my decision.

Now if Aetna would just cooperate!!

No, I don't mind at all, if you join in. Hey, you're lucky to have Aetna!! From what I've seen on this forum, Aetna is the best to have. I was told by my surgeon's office that my insurance follows the requirements of Aetna. I hope I get approved!!

I, like you, have been heavy all my life. I've made up my mind too and wonder what took me so long. I have decided that if I am denied, I am going to find the money and self pay, if I have to. Whose your surgeon?

Dr. Brent Allain; he did my gall bladder surgery in 2009. That's how long I've been considering WLS and now that I've decided, I'm SO impatient!!

I know what you mean about impatient! I am the queen of that! One of my friends just confided in me that she's having the surgery and she's paying for it herself. Now, she's having it done before me because she didn't have this 3 month weight thing to do!

My surgeon is Dr. Chu in Lafayette. My last visit is In June. They will submit the paperwork after that.

Well, I spent my lunch break getting an Upper GI w/ Barium Swallow. Let's just hope that I don't ever have to do that again. GROSS!!

Thankfully, it didn't take very long and that's one more thing I can cross off of my Aetna "To Do" List!

I wanted to post in this forum that I was approved by my insurance company because when I was looking for information on my insurer in Louisiana, I couldn't find any information on this site. I am a parish/state employee and we are self funded. The insurer or third party administrator is CCMSI or Cannon Cochran Management Services, Inc. I hope that if anyone starts searching in the future for information, they will find this post and know that it can be done!

I'm a state employee, have been for 10 years, our insurance has never covered WLS under any circumstances. I just shelled out $14K for my beautiful sleeve

Do you have State Group?

I'm not sure. OGB is in charge of our insurance. None of the choices we have eve covers WLS. They are pretty verbal about, no how, no way. But I'm happy with mt decision to self pay.

They won't even cover it, if you establish medical necesiity? My BMI is 46 with several health issues. I had to go through a 4 month process. I just found out yesterday that I was approved! I was going the self pay route otherwise!! Glad youre pleased with your sleeve!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
