Rico 55 Posted March 25, 2012 I want to make something very clear before i start. This is just a one day test .. a test to see what my sleeve can and can't handle at 16 weeks. I do not condone anything of what i am about to share. This is a test and should be used only as a source of information. I am doing this so you won't have to! So at 16 weeks out i want to see what my sleeve aka "Bananaman" can handle in terms of type and amount of food.< /p> Two tests: Sodas and fast food ** NOTE: My findings are short and to the point ... If you would like more details about each test please send me a private message and i would be very happy to share it with you. Test 1: Sodas I had three 330 ml diet cokes throughout the day. Of course i could only drink about a third each time before feeling full. Verdict: It was not uncomfortable. On each try the soda went down fine and stayed there. It felt "fizzy" on the way down but after a few seconds it was okay. It tasted a lot sweeter than it used too before VSG and that to me was a big turn off. Although it was fine on the sleeve i'm not going to want to have anymore. This finding was based on Diet Coke. Other brands and flavours could have a different outcome. Test 2: Fast food- McDonald's chicken McNuggets + KFC + Burger King's Junior Whopper At about 2pm i had some chicken McNuggets. Verdict: I could only eat four pieces with BBQ Sauce. I was surprised because it felt normal like any other day only quantity was effected here. I didn't have trouble swallowing the chicken or acidity issues with the BBQ sauce. At 5pm i had KFC. I ordered a dinner Box (three pieces of regular chicken). Verdict: Horrible! The worst feeling ever! I couldn't finish one piece. It was oily and i had major acid re-fluxes! The food wouldn't stay down and had slime for about 15 mins after eating. At 8pm it was time for Junior Whopper from BK. Obviously, to try and make this test as realistic as possible for sleevers i had to remove the bread on top but left everything else on it. Verdict: Couldn't stand it. It was so heavy i couldn't keep it down. I was full from the first bite and it took me ages to chew. It really wasn't pleasant at and as with KFC i also had acidity issues and slime. I know there is a ton of information and many testimonials on this forum about the information i just shared with you but i just wanted to contribute my personal experience. Many members might say "you shouldn't have done this test" or "why put your sleeve through all this .. not worth it" etc... Well they are right but i think it is well worth it if it could help people answer their questions. 2 anngee and Jack Fabulous reacted to this

terrilynndrew 89 Posted March 25, 2012 I'm glad you did the test! I've been wondering about chicken nuggets myself! Lol! I'll be 5 weeks out tomorrow & my only cravings are sushi & salad! Those are my favorite foods and I hope my sleeve & tastebuds like them! Sent from my iPhone using VST
Lissa 2,631 Posted March 25, 2012 Rico, I'm LOL here at your presentation! I think we all had to try the foods we loved before once we were sleeved and back on solids. I can eat chicken nuggets sometimes, but they are a desperation option for me. I try to keep a Protein bar in my purse to avoid going to McDonalds. As for KFC chicken, something I loved before surgery, I now try to get a piece of grilled chicken or chicken strips rather than the original recipe I used to think was really good. Even the chicken strips have too much breading, but I remove most of the breading... and I don't often eat them because that's incredibly messy. I still love mcdonald's cheeseburgers, though...at least the taste. I toss the bun and eat just the patty, pickle and cheese if Im going to eat one. I think I've had two in 7 months. Truthfully, I'll go into a gas station and buy a small bag of nuts and a bottle Water before I go for fast food these days. I'm on the road a lot because of my job and my schedule is constantly changing, so it's sometimes hard to predict if I will need to pack a lunch. I carry Protein Bars, but try not to eat more than one a day because I want to get my Protein from real food rather than from supplements. I still drink diet, caffeine free soda, but it's now 1 a day, after my Water is in, unlike pre-op where I'm not sure I ever drank water. I prefer Decaf iced tea to almost any other drink now. Isn't it amazing how fast our taste buds change, though?
Liliana Arleen 173 Posted March 25, 2012 Wow. I know that is was only a test but I don't think I can put into my body all those gross foods at once in one day. I am glad that you are sharing your experience and that is how we learn when we try something new to eat after the sleeve (the hard way lol) I guess with the time we are able to tolerate different foods . I think you can have some of those foods once in a while. There is nothing wrong with that, specially since you are exercising Again thanks for sharing your test, that was a lot of junk food for 1 day
CaliKat 153 Posted March 28, 2012 Oh gosh- im sooooo looking forward to ditching the fast food. I had 3 McDoubles today and was kinda full (but not really- it was a food funeral) and I CANT WAIT to be full after a few bites of whatever! Very excited I found this forum and am only 8 days away!! Yay!
wishes 125 Posted March 28, 2012 Err.... I <3 McNuggets at nearly 7 months out, but again I wouldn't eat them except for when I am out of options. I always try to make sure I have my Protein before I leave the house. Planning is really a big part of what I think makes the weight loss nearly effortless. Caradina 65 Posted March 28, 2012 I'm glad to know about the nuggets. Sometimes, when you're with a group, your only option is to go with the flow. When your group usually involves a square million children, like mine does, (ugh) McDonalds is usually the only afforable way to feed them, as they eat SO MUCH food. So a McD's option is great! Thanks for your research!
Bedhead 158 Posted March 28, 2012 The science geek in me needs to point out that your research method was majorly flawed. In order to get a more accurate result you should have split these bad food choices up over a few days. Soda one day. Nuggets a different day. KFC on another day, and Burger King on its own day. I think it's possible that the nuggets went down easily but you following meals were more difficult could have been in direct relation to the grease and heaviness of the nuggets. You could have made your sleeve work overtime by following that meal with more greasy meals- thus skewing your overall results. 1 LadyIvy reacted to this
Bedhead 158 Posted March 28, 2012 Also- you make no mention of the quantities of the last two meals you were able to get down. Did you eat the entire boxed meal? The entire burger minus bun? If so your discomfort could have been more quantity related than the food choices themselves.
