Uh Oh, Acid Reflux Just Showed Up - 3+ Months Out

Recommended Posts

I am having some acidy feeling in my stomach, and i have not been able to associate it with a particular food or situation. Before the acidy feeling, I had noticed some nasueau feeling (not severe, but noticable).

I will see the doc next week, but curious if others have had the acid/heartburn show up 3+ months out from surgery? I have been drinking a cup of coffee a day since 8 weeks, so am eliminating that (not that i associate the acid with coffee, but i figure I should try eliminating anything questionable). Any other ideas of what to try?

I have been taking one proselec every morning since my surgery... no change there.

I have felt very happy with my results, no big complications, happy with my weight loss... so this is discouraging... like I am experiencing a complication when I had thought i was "out of the woods."

No coffee here at all and I have not taken anything for acid since week 2 post op. I just try to stay away from foods that are high in acid. It might be the coffee and will be interesting to see if you have a change after stopping the coffee.

I will suggest you to talk your surgeon about seeing a GI if you reflux persist . I had Acid Reflux prior surgery, gerd and I still have reflux but is not as bad as it was.

Maybe you need to switch for another anti reflux medication? Let us know what your Dr say

I resemble this very much though my surgery was 12/5 I was only recently having the same experience with reflux. It comes at the same time I may need to have my thyroid med reduced due to afib. I was due for a blood test in a week or so so went early and am waiting to see the results. I'm down 62# at this point. The weight loss has slowed to a crawl...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
