Hi all! Now that it is spring I really want to get a bike to ride with my family, but I don't have a bike! I haven't ridden since I was a teenager. What kind of bike can I get to hold me? I am 350. Any suggestions that won't cost me a fortune? Thanks!

I never had a problem with a bike holding my weight. I have ridden a beach cruiser as well as a 10 speed. just make sure you have good tires. BTW my heaviest weight was 320, and I rode bikes back then too. :) have fun!

I had a bike. It always felt like it had flat tires, so I gave it away. :( it WAS a Wal mart cheapie. I want one of those cruisers with the big handle bars! :D

Theres a plus size section on a bike forum. I believe the site is bikeforum.net. Google it. There's a section with a horse name to it, I forgot, but they have info for people that are bigger and want great bike recommendations. Also google :Bikes for bigger people. I believe the cheapest I've seen was about 500 that was made to fit someone over 300 lbs.

I have a Trek hybrid (like a cross between mountain bike and road bike). I have had it for maybe 10 years and I love it. I am not sure what the weight capacity is, but I would be very surprised if it would be a problem for you. It has the thicker tires and also a wide, comfy seat.

While it wasn't the most expensive bike in the world (purchased at a good local bike store), if I had to do it over again, I would go to the bike stores to see what I liked best and then search Craigslist. The exact bike I bought was commonly seen on Craigslist for 1/4 of what we paid new, and in like new condition. A lot of people buy bikes and never use them and so sell them when they want to regain room in the garage, or when it is time to move. The same goes for bike accessories like vehicle racks.

Now that the weather is good, it is a great time to ride. I hope you can find a comfy bike!

I vote for the beach cruiser too, they are comfy with an upright seating position and high bars. Don't forget you're losing so don't buy simply based on todays weight.

Getting a CL bike is a great idea. I've been looking high and low for a cruiser on mine. Nothing but old ones being sold. No can do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
