For those of you who have lost a bunch of weight post VSG, what you do tell people that ask you how you did it? I have told some people, but I'm not sure I want everyone knowing I had surgery. However, weight loss after VSG is typically faster than when you just diet. So, what do you say to the random person who asks you how you lost so much weight?

I think I am going to say I started with a liquid diet including some high Protein drinks to get the ball rolling. Then I started to change my lifestyle by eating Protein first (at least 70grams a day), then veggies, then carbs and by eating smaller portions. Cutting out sugar and carbs as much as possible and by increasing my Water intake to at least 64 ounces a day. Lets not forget working out and walking 30 minutes a day. A total lifestyle change.

Thats not lying but not telling them everything. :)

^ I like this. Most people that know me know I've had surgery, but for those that don't know (if they don't know by now, they probably don't need to know) this works!

Ha ha it sounds like a great diet plan lol. I do not want to really lie to people but I don't want to tell everyone my private business either. So this is my plan. :) Glad you liked it. Hope it works for you.

That is kinda the angle I was thinking. Because, after all, it isn't a lie. Thanks!

i never understand this. when someone asks how you lost your weight, your reply of eating less, excercise, this is all true, end of sentence.

if i were to add the explanation of the WLS. thats when people might roll their eyes thinking "oh the easy way out".....very few understand how much work this new lifesyle is going to be that we chose.

how much work we'll do from now...thats why i don't usually talk about the surgery remember people think we usually get great results over night... you know, go to work on friday, return to work on monday being all thin

we know how things really work,,,but others don't understand. but our benefits...oh how wonderful are they?!!!

Today I went to the hair salon and a lady heard me talking to my hair dresser about my weight loss, and the lady sitting there asked me how I had lost all the weight. I hesitated for a moment and then just told her about my wls. She was really interested and asked a lot of questions. I didn't worry about what she thought. but I did ask my hairdresser about the owner of the salon and whether he had his GBS. She told me no, that they had post poned the surgery and he took it as a sign he wasn't suppose to have the surgery. I was so tempted to go up to him and tell him about my surgery but didn't have the nerve. I also thought it would be very rude of me to intrude on him like that because he doesn't really know me. I really do want to talk to him though. What should I do? ;)

Dorrie, Be a living, breathing, walking, talking testament to WLS. That's all you can do. If I had my way, I'd be lining my cousins and aunts up at my doctor's office. Instead of bombarding them, though, I just make sure I'm dressed cute and in ways that show off my weight loss whenever I go around my family (and any other time)!

People I work with are really starting to see the difference in my shape, especially now that I've gone hard core on working out daily. I'm enjoying the extra attention all around! :)

I do the same thing that 2bsmall wrote. I reduced my portions and increased my exercise.

I had told a couple people early on and received so much critism I just decided not to say anything. I didn't need it at that time. But now that I am where I am at, with time, weight and experience behind me, I may change my approach.

I've been working on a blog and if I am going to direct friends to it, I am going to have to be honest about my journey.

On my fb I decided to post that I was getting it done. I don't know how many people paid attention or cared, but I put it out there. For people that I'd actually see, if I like them, and they ask I'd tell them. People that I might hardly speak to or just talking with to be nice, I'd tell them diet and exercise or eating less depending on which I do.
