Im Sick.....all The Time

Recommended Posts

I had VG on 3/1/12. First week went pretty well. Since last week, I have been really sick. Nausea/vomiting, cant keep fluids down and cant eat anything. Ended up in the emergency room last week for dehydration. Now im taking reglan, zofran, prilosec morning and night, and pepcid in the afternoon. Started to feel a little better last couple of days, but today it all started again. I dont know what to do. Did anyone else experience this?

Have you been to your surgeon and talked about getting a scope done on you? It sounds to me like you might have a stricture. Or you could have increased swelling. I had both, as well as a few other issues in the first few months of my sleeve. Definitely not somehting you want to put off.

Hi sasicas, thanks for responding. I have seen my surgeon's PA several times. I also had a series of abdominal x-ray's done in the ER because the doctors suspected something was going on. The x-rays showed nothing abnormal. Lab work was fine too. Maybe I just have to wait it out, but I feel so awful.

I've had a stricture and I am still trying to recover. I am four months post op. I have only lost about 60 pounds. Anyways this can be very serious. I had severe pain in my left shoulder and NOTHING stayed down. It went say and came right back up just as it went down. I stayed nauseated and did good to keep liquids down. I had an esophagus dilation feb 16. It lasted maybe two days. I then went back and has a barium swallow and it showed my stricture I had another dilation with a bigger balloon march 13. It is some better. More things are going down. I lacked Protein serious and wanted to stay in bed. Pure exhaustion. My doc is watching this closely. I am the first in his practice. Of course leave it to me! It's frustrating and overwhelming at times. Get it treated!

Can u explain what at stricture is?

A stricture is basically a narrowing in your sleeve or esophagus. For me they took me to the GI at the hospital, put me under a light sedation, stuck a tube with a camera down my throat and when they saw the stricture they ballooned it open. Sometimes the dilation works on the first try, sometimes it takes several times. With my first stricture, it closed so much that I could no longer eat or drink, so it's important to have it checked out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
