Frustrated?!?!?! Any Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Jan 27th and the first 4 weeks I lost 25 lbs. This last 4 weeks, I've lost 5 lbs, but I've been yo-yoing between the same 2 lbs between 256 and 258. I drink about 80 oz of Water a day, 80 g of Protein, on average about 800 calories a day. I go to the gym 4 days a week for about 30 min on the treadmill (this is on my lunch break). Then I go to the gym on Saturday and Sunday and swim laps for about an hour.

I've been in this stall for 4 weeks and I thought that this was supposed to be my honeymoon period. LOL! I just don't know how to break it. I have lost inches, so I can definitely see it. I would just like the scale to move past 256 (which is 30 lbs since surgery).

Does anyone have any suggestions or go through the same thing in the 2nd month?

I'm right there with ya babe. We just have to wait for time to pass and stay off of the scale. I can FEEL myself shrinking. I LOOK like I should weigh 280, but the stooped scale keeps saying 300 each and every day!!! I am trying a strip down of carbs to see if I can get the fat stores burning faster and maybe tip the scale. I was so excited to get to 300 because that meant I was about to be back in the twos. Then I got shafted by the evil scale! We got this!! It will happen. IT WILL HAPPEN!!! WE GOT THIS!!! OKAY??? Don't lose hope.

You may want to look at increasing your food a little bit. I had the same problem at 2 months. I stalled for nearly 6 weeks, when the nut and I sat down and looked at my food journals and decided to up my calories by 100. It did the trick and off to losing again I went.

Good Luck! You are doing great on all fronts and wish I had your motivation for exercise at 2 months post-op.

Hope this helps!

Hey guys - I was sleeved 1/30 and I think I have almost exactly same stats as you two. I just had a REALLY FRUSTRATING 2 week stall. I've been reading everything everyone says about stalls and it seems what we are experiencing is normal (and even to be expected). I tried upping my calories a little and Water a lot and switching up my exercise routine. Phew...stall is officially broken. I've lost three pounds in three days. My doc says this is what I should expect, really. He referred to it as stepping down (level for a bit, down for a bit, level for a bit, down for a bit....). Hang in there. There's no way we can't lose weight when we're consuming under 1000 calories a day (and exercising)! Have faith and patience.

I also had a stall that basically last for several weeks. Try increasing your calories and see if this will get your weight to move. Your body maybe thinking that you are starving it.

Having stalls are very frustrating. At 5.5 months post op, the scale is moving slowly, by ozs. I have increased my calories which has helped by losing ozs. I'm also looking at being close to goal and yes the weight loss will be a little slower. On THE DOCTORS, they were talking about visceral fat being the easiest to loose. So that's probably where I am. Now it's time to get busy toning and stop making my lame accuses in my head to avoid exercise. LOL. We can do this, it just takes time.

Yesterday, my hubby told me I need to stop with the weight loss. That's a really big NSV! I told him my body has pretty much stopped. I asked him if I look like I've lost any weight and he said yes. So my body is redistributing my weight. LOL Keep Rockin those Sleeves! ;)

There's no way you will not lose your weight! It might take some time, after all, we didn't put the weight on over night. I try to keep this in mind. :)

I was yo yoing at week four and my doctor told me I have to eat at least 1000 calories to lose weight. I up'd my calories and have stuck to 1000 calories a day. My scale is finally moving! I've lost 5 in the last week.

Thanks everyone for responding. I've been pretty mellow about this all, but I was hoping to be down 40 lbs post op by now. I'm just nervous that when I see my surgeon on May 4th he's going to say "You haven't lost enough!" Then I'll be pissed off, because I've done what I've supposed to do. What all the paperwork says to do.

I've never vomited. I've only slimed once (and that was enough). I have overeaten a couple of times, but nothing major. I learned my lesson.

I guess I just have this overriding fear that I will have done this for nothing if it doesn't move soon.

Hi Tif! I know it's so difficult! I've had many of the same feelings. I just came to accept that it's a process -- not unlike say pregancy -- our body is going to do what it's going to do and it doesn't matter what our timetable or ideas are. We are just along for the ride! LOL! I've always felt that if I am doing what I am suppose to do, the rest will follow. I just try to get into what I jokingly call "my zen space" and just deal! :-) and I put my energy into follwowing the plan. I'm 86 lbs. down so it's working! ;-) I know it's different for everyone and it can be very frustating and even scary at times. Good luck and hang in there kiddo!!!

Hi Tif, Sleeve sister here (1/28). I went through the same thing. Around week 3 or so I.stalled for 3 long weeks. It was mind torture!! I went to my surgeon last Monday & he was basically like keep doing what you're doing. No advice. I upped my calories from about 600 a day to 800 a day. I'm still not.exercising so you will probably have different numbers, but the very next day the scale started moving.....finally!!!! In the last 10 days I've lost 13 lbs. I am soooo happy & feel like the honeymoon is just getting started since I basically hated my sleeve until 6 wks post-op. Now that o don't throw up daily anymore AND I'm losing I feel like the love is beginning ;) Don't get.discouraged! It WILL happen!!! We can stick together sister & keep each other positive & focused! I admire your daily exercise....I'm not there yet.....but soon! 44# post-op & planning on kicking into high gear @ 250 (20 more lbs) because of major back pain. Yay you!!! Keep up the amazing work!!

So, I did it. I increased my caloric intake and I lost that 2 lbs, plus another .4.

I'm now at 255.4. WHOOHOOOOOOO!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
