6 Month Insurance Waiting Period

Recommended Posts

I am relatively new as well to this whole thing. My insurance requires a 6 month program they call the "I Can Change" program, where i basically have to talk to a life coach once a month for 6 months. At the end they will issue me a completion letter and the hopsital im doing the program through will need to submit with the package. As part of the program through the hospital i have to see the dietician 3 times. I havent lost any weight yet but i also havent gained anything since i started watching the way that i eat. Im glad but also annoyed at the 6 month program becuase I have to wait until end of July/beginning of August for a surgery date. I do have to lose 15 to 18lbs through before they will do the surgery so i do need to get my butt in gear!!

As stated by other posters the time has gone by fast and its basically already April and im 3 months in!

Please everyone with BCBS of Illinois keep calling your insurance regarding the now obsolete waiting period. While policies will differ from employer to employer, if your policy does pay for WLS, there is no more 6 month wait. Be your own advocate. This was a big win that doctors actually lobbied to get because all it served to do was discourage people and make them feel more of a failure. This was cleared in February so call BCBS of illinois daily until they give you the correct information!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
