Still Hungry.....wth?!?

Recommended Posts

I'm 7.5 weeks post-op & still very hungry!! I've been eating 800+ calories a day for the last week or so. The good news is it broke my stall, but I'm concerned about feeling so hungry. Wasn't that hunger switch removed?? I am drinking lots of Water & taking 2 prilosecs a day. I see people on here further out than me eating way less. Also, I'm eating healthy, high Protein, low(ish) carb (less than 40 a day) & low sugar. So, what is going on? Is anyone else still getting hungry or am I the odd man out? Fyi I'm also not exercising very much so that is not a contributing factor.

I don't know for sure, but I have heard of others still being hungry and my surgeon told me that not everybody would get that "so not ever hungry" feeling. That being said, you should get full after eating... are you still hungry after eating?

If so, then it is probably head hunger :(

It sounds like you are doing great though... keep it up and hopefully someone with more experience will offer some input.

Still hungry an hour or so after meals here as well, so I feel your pain. I am working out a lot, so that is very likely a contributing factor, but I plan to speak with my surgeon about increasing the dosage on my ppi just to see if it helps.

I stay hungry too. I get full when eating and then 1 hour later I am hungry again. My dr said it is because I don't eat Breakfast and I am fooling my body into thinking I am starving it so when I do ea my body grabs the food and uses it up. He told me not to skip a meal. I just can't make myself eat breakfast. I was a big breakfast eater before the surgery but now I just can't eat until around 1:00 every day. Then I feel like I graze all afternoon and even into the night. My surgery was in December 2011. I have lost 35 lbs but feel like I should have lost more.

Eat small meals 6-8 times a day. Protein Shakes if you have too 2 times a day. I eat cheese sticks, lunch meat a slice or 2 day.

I've been hungry all 3 years since my first day of surgery! lol. . . it's a real pain in the gluteus maximus. I asked my doctor about that and did you know that the pancreas also produces that damned gherlin? Yup in some folks, the hormone is produced in the stomach part which has been removed in us, and in some folks it is produced in the pancreas. . . ugh life can really throw a curve ball to people can't it? Good luck! Keep working that sleeve, it won't let you down. . .

What is your ppi?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
