What May Seem Like Dumb Questions Feel Free To Add On......

Recommended Posts

I hate calling my doctor to ask about every little question which is why I love, love, love this site. These may seem like silly questions but I'm wondering at what point we are allowed to drink with a straw?? I know when I left the hospital they told me to stay away from straws but is this a forever thing? I gave up my daily mountain dews but love to drink even Water with a straw.

Also will there ever be a time when you can eat and drink at the same time. I had no clue how much discipline this would require as I've always ate and drank at the same time. I absent mindedly did it post sleeve and ended up spitting up water. Is this just for newly sleeved people or is this something I should prepare to do forever????

Andi, My doc nixes straws forever and ever. And, the same for eating while drinking. Someone posted a youtube video that shows the effects of eating and drinking together and it basically pushes the food right through your sleeve, so you get hungry faster. At least in active weight loss, that's not a good idea. :)

I was wondering the same thing! I love straws and was hoping I could use them eventually.

My surgeon never prohibited straws and I have used them from day 4 post-op--this is one of those things where surgeons have different opinions. I have never suffered any ill effects from using a straw. The eating and drinking at the same time I can't do and I'm 14 months out. I can take a sip while I am eating but I can't drink a mouthful of liquid and then eat some solid food--it just makes me feel ill.

My surgeon never said anything about not using a straw and I've been using one since 5 days post op. I have tried to avoid eating and drinking together, so I can't answer that.

I have used a draw since 3 days post op. It gives me better control over how much I take in.

I've been using a straw since about 5 weeks. I do have to be careful not to chug absent mindedly or the gas is a killer, but I drink my daily sf vanilla latte with a straw with no problems. Drinking with food makes me throw up. Not a tiny, tiny sip but a normal size.swallow & I puke. It is challenging!! I hate having to choose.....do I want to eat.or drink more?? Oh well....small price to pay!

My doc said no straws ever or drinking with meals. I got use to it and it's fine. Oh happy days! ;)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
