I am battling PCOS, so what has happened to me may not happen to everyone. I was sleeved December 5, 2011 and thus far I have had 6 periods. In the four months prior to surgery I didn't have one at all. Surgery was a Monday, by that Friday I had one. And just about every other week since then. I didn't do any birth control the first few weeks per doctors orders, but then I started back on Trinessa. That didn't help at all, and my insurance changed and finally I could afford to use NuvaRing again, my favorite birth control out of all I've been on! I'm hoping that NuvaRing will do the trick. My surgeon said usually if cycles get messed up they start to fix themselves around the 3 month mark.

Good luck!

hadn't had a cycle for over 6 months, I got it during surgery and am back now to every 28 days, i want getting my period secondary to my weight. This is the only minus in my opinion to my sleeve. LOL

Mine came back very normal, but I have been told by some that it can give you a somewhat "dehydrated" version of a period. Meaning the blood is somewhat dried up the entire time. I didnt have that problem.

I suffered from PCOS like many other overweight women.

I am just over 6 months post op. My cycle is unpredictiable. I bleed for a month straight and since, have been on for about 50% of the time. I've been under a large amount of stress, so I'm sure that didn't help.

My surgeon said its' very typical for the cycle to be off that first year.

I have also struggled with PCOS for a long time. I kinda felt like my menses were starting to regulate before the sleeve and my only explanation was that I cut out pretty much all sugar and was exercising alot. I never go to the gym, but I hike alot and do other outdoor activities.

I started my flow about five days post-op, but it only lasted for three days, which is unusual for me. Then it started 28days later like clock-work. I'm thinking I'm going to go back on the pill for it's original purpose -- contraception -- as opposed to keeping me regular.

While, I don't enjoy or look forward to my monthly, I have to say that it's exciting to be normal/regular without pills!

I have had an IUD since I had my son...never had a period. Before surgery, I lost about 15 pounds on the liquid diet. On the day of surgery BAM...period came. It came again after my first month sleeved...and I haven't seen it since. spooky little thing...but I don't miss it.

I had a 28 day cycle preop that was like clockwork. Since surgery it's been all over the place. I'm hoping that will fix itself in time.

I've always been regular and still am. 26-30 day cycles but most are 28-29. Three months post op still the same. I do notice that I stall coming up to my period then drop 3-4 lbs in the days after.

I too have PCOS exacerbated by weight. I have been taking Quasense the generic for Seasonale for 4 months and so far so good. I did notice the smallest amount of light, pink on the tissue 2 days post op so I'm not sure what that was all about. I should have a regular period 2.5 months from now. My biggest fear is getting pregnant prior to reaching my goal weight. Hubby and I will be very cautious until then!

Surgery caused mine to start, however I didn't really get it normally. But then I got it again a month and a week later for about a day and then it went away. I think you could really expect just about anything in that department. (As you can see by all the varying responses!!) I was a low BMI too....so i don't think that being a high BMI or low BMI effects it that much.

It actually seemed to help mine, though it is most likely the weight loss and not the sleeve specifically. Supposedly when you lose weight, especially a lot of weight, all of the hormones that are stored in that fat are released and can cause your system to go out of wack (or back into wack lol). Before surgery I wasn't regular at all and had horrible PMS... after about 2 months after it is just about clockwork and my PMS is manageable.

This comes up a LOT in the ladies room if you want to browse around there!

Oh, and just FYI... there pretty much is no "for females only" OR "for males only" lol. We are always so nosy and generally can't help ourselves. HOWEVER... NONE of the guys that i've seen in these boards would ever say something inappropriate or make you feel embarrassed... seriously go check out the mans room... some of the most interesting conversations lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
