Bcbs Of Texas---Rowan Companies

Recommended Posts

I have BCBS of TX. My handbook states the following:

Benefits for Morbid Obesity

Benefits for Eligible Expenses incurred by Participant for the Medically Necessary treatment of Morbid Obesity will be provided on the same basis as for any other sickness.

This is all it say about Morbid Obesity. Do you think I will have to go through the 6 months of supervised diet. I hope not. I am so ready to have this surgery. I am so ready to be healthy.

Anyone else have BCBS of Texas? If so, any information you could share would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dina

I also have BCBS and sadly but true u do have to have 6 months supervised diet and psych eval. My daughter went thru this 3 yrs ago with Aetna n was declined. BCBS she had no problems, just overweight. Make sure u meet the criteria before u start. Talk with the dr and the financial person. Ask questions! Lots of questions

I have BCBS of IL. 6 months diet is not required. Just call your insurance company and ask. Sometimes it varies by individual employer profiles... so nobody except your insurance company will be able to verify. Good luck!!

It depends if it is an H.M.O. or PPO. I have the PPO and all that it required was a psych eval & sleep study. It is covered like any other surgery, subject to deductibles & co insurance.

Call the insurance and ask if the surgery is covered under your policy.

My insurance is a PPO. Thanks for the information. Hopefully I won't have to do the 6th months supervised diet. But I will do whatever it takes. I just need to learn to be patient.

Also I took the 6 month supervised diet as a way to adjust and get ready for life after the sleeve... It will be a BIG change to your system... Atleast food intake wise

Bcbs said they don't cover it

Did u look up the policy in bcbs? It has criteria you have to meet before it is covered.

BCBS does cover it... I have it but like slim said there are certian criteria you have to meet and some polices have you do a 6 month diet(with a dietian) then psych eval.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
