You should always go by your doctors post-op diet just to be safe.

On my post-op diet I was allowed to have the turkey, cooked veggies and cheese in the mushy stage 21 days post-op. Raw veggies and more dense protien (like drier meats) after 6 weeks post-op.

I was eating the thin turkey/chicken at just under 3 weeks. I am 5 1/2 weeks out and have had lots of different meats, no steak, pork chops etc yet but lots of ground chicken, pork , fish etc. I never end up having much room for vegies but I try to get al least a few bites in.

I am paranoid because of all the different timeframes doctor's use.

That is understandable. There are sooo many different plans depending on the Dr you had so I just tried it, chewed really well and had no issues. Give it a try, your body will tell you if it is ok with it. Just start slow, a very small bit or two and see what happens. Good luck to you!

My mushies stage was week 5 and 6. My surgeon is one of the more conservative ones.

Thanks, I just picture my stomach splitting open like a Gallagher watermelon if I eat one bite too much or eat something 5 minutes earlier than I should. My instructions were a little thin.

I simply do not understand the surgeons who send people home sans detailed instructions. I have a notebook full of things like: What is the best Protein powder, how much of each and every nutrient should be in the supplements I take, what I should be eating at which stage, a list of Protein rich foods, sample menus, etc.

Week 1 & 2: Clear liquid

Week 3 & 4: Full liquid

Week 5 & 6: Mushies/puree

Week 7 & 8: Start introducing solids.

The common list of not allowed foods are: Carbonated beverages, doughy bread (toasting bread makes it manageable), popcorn (you can try after 6 months), coconut and coffee (okay after 3 months). I have been told that very fibrous fruits and vegetables can cause problems (celery, asparagus, apple skins, the white, web part of citrus), but I digest them fine.

Get 70-90 grams of protein and drink I think 72 oz. of Water a day. Take a mufti-Vitamin with Iron and a Calcium supplement. I do not have the amounts on me, but I take 3 chewable multis and 2 soft chew calicium citrates a day. I also take 2500 mcg of B-12 every 2 days, but that is more than recommended.

My instructions had a few sample foods, but is not clear. For example, I can have a potato. I assumed that was any kind of potato, no, it only included white potatoes, not sweet potato. I just wished the sample foods were as complete as other plans I have seen on the Internet so I am not calling the NUT constantly and being treated like I am a pain. Their materials are written for the lowest common denominator and very child like.

Maybe your feedback could help them put together a better plan because with all you have going on, a good written plan is so valuable.

I left the hospital (and my surgeon's office ahead of time) with so much information that it would make your head spin. I did not have to make one call regarding what I could/couldn't or should/shouldn't eat.

As for the answer to your original question, for me it was week five! And then it needed to be thoroughly chewed.

My surgeon sent me all of the pre opt, and post opt information prior to surgery. Also when I arrived for surgery he gave me a printed duplicate copy and asked if there were any questions, Also he is just an email away and is very good to email back with hours...

I think there are some really good sites on the web that will give you some concrete instructions. I saw someone who was same day surgery as me who had tried fish, so I went out bought me a piece of cod (3 oz = 45 g protein) and had that with a little fresh squeezed lemon ...baked of course

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
