Operation New Leaf: The Leaf Has Landed

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

No, I'm not dead. Yes, my ticker is accurate. Here's the skinny:

1) I am a slow loser at approximately 1-2 pounds a week, stalling every 3rd or 4th week for 1-2 weeks per stall. But that's okay, because

2) The scale and the inches are still going down! I started in a size 32 and am now in an 18/20. I started in a 50G bra size and am now a 42F (the girls will always be big, no matter how saggy they get, lol.)

3) I am 5 pounds over my halfway-point in my weight loss!

I am eating well, living well, being healthy and happy and knowing that life will continue that way for the forseeable future. I am pain free in the lower-back, knees and ankles for the first time in years. My doctors are all surprised at how I look and when I went for a little pampering this weekend to get a pedicure for the first time in over a year, the ladies at the spa didn't recognize me. :)

I attribute my new awesome job to the surgery. I finally dug up enough confidence to go out and look for something new, and got it. So now life is even better than it was before because I'm not stuck at AwfulJob anymore.

Life is good. I'm so happy I can say that. :)

Hugs to all,

Bryn

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
