I am currently 11 days post op. My surgery was on 03/08/2012 with Dr. Nicholson at Forest Park Medical Center. I don't know anyone that has had this procedure, and it would be great to know someone that has recently had the surgery and/or will be having it shortly.

I've never been in a hospital before, therefore this was my first procedure/surgery ever. My pre-op diet was hard at first, but I did get used to it. On the day of surgery, I had to arrive at the hospital at 4:30am. In the surgery holding area, I changed into my gown, and an IV was started. Once the IV was started my family was able to visit with me. I was visited by the Dr., the anesthesiologist, the surgical nurse during that time as well. I remember being wheeled out of the holding area, then waking up in recovery. When I got to my room, I was still pretty out of it, but I remember that my mouth was extremely dry. I wasn't allowed to have anything to drink until the following day. Chapstick came in handy. They did allow me to swish Water around in my mouth and spit it out. Not to scare you, but it was the worse pain I have ever felt in my life. The first few days suck, but it gets better. Get up and walk as much as possible. Trust me it helps. I was constipated for about a week and a half after surgery. Now I go about once or twice a day. At about 2 1/2 weeks post-op, I'm in no pain. Just discomfort if I sit or lay for too long. If you have any specific questions, feel free to just ask. I wish you two the best of luck with your surgeries. Keep me posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
