GonnaLoseIt 33 Posted March 20, 2012 Hi everyone. I was just chewing a piece of gum and accidentally swallowed it. I am 6 months post op. Am I going to be okay, or should I worry.
Tana_Q 20 Posted March 20, 2012 At 6 months out I wouldn't worry.
WhoozisAnyway 176 Posted March 20, 2012 You should be fine. Gum gets digested just like food, although because of the consistency it can take a little longer. The whole thing about gum staying in your stomach for 7 years (or forever) is just an old wives' tale.
carbgrl 119 Posted March 20, 2012 It's one of my fears. I'm a gum freak (ex-smoker). Have you had any trouble eating or driniking after? I accidently sallowed gum within a week after getting the band and I didn't have any problems. Let us know how you're doing.
GonnaLoseIt 33 Posted March 20, 2012 Thanks guys. I appreciate the answer, someone answered on OH that they had done the same thing two weeks ago, and they are fine. I just freaked because I am usually so careful with what goes into my sleeve, then I breathed while chewing and down the hatch it went. Knew about the wives tale but thought the stomach digested it differently and we all know our stomachs aren't quite the same as most peoples and didn't know if that would screw with something. It's one of my fears. I'm a gum freak (ex-smoker). Have you had any trouble eating or driniking after? I accidently sallowed gum within a week after getting the band and I didn't have any problems. Let us know how you're doing. It happened about an hour or so ago now. Can drink just fine, but have a full feeling, which I guess I am lol.
