Loose Skin Question

Recommended Posts

So this may be a hard question for me to ask clearly but I was curious as to real life loose skin stories. I know lots of factors are involved in having loose skin or not but I am trying to get a good idea if I will have a lot of extra skin if I reach my goal of roughly 185, which would be about a 115 lb drop for me (just under 6 ft tall).

I'm still young (at least I consider myself young at 38) with no health issues other than being 300lbs @ just under 6ft tall. Just seeing what other's experiences were with getting loose skin, I guess, and what your pre-op and post-op factors were. This may be too personal of a question so I understand if people dont want to answer.

Please just yell at me and tell me it is an inappropriate question!

Loose skin depends on so many factors--including genetics so I think you will get a lot of different answers.

About 10 years ago I lost 100 lbs on my own and I was only 24 and I had the apron of fat around my stomach. I had a panniculectomy--got my insurance to pay for it and everything.

The other places I have problems with loose skin are my arms (batwings) and under my chin from losing my double chin, it gets a little wrinkly there. I use firming butter and skin firming lotions a few times a day. I am not sure if it helps or not, but I have been using it for years! I just got the sleeve 3 weeks ago, so I have a ways to go until I really have to worry about excess skin :)

That has been one of my questions. I have been overweight for 27 yrs so I am worried that the extra skin in my mid section will hang over to my toes ha ha not that bad but I have a pouch. Also my "bat wings" I have been working out three to four times a week and I hope that some of the skin can be filled up with muscles if not I will be saving up for a plastic surgeon.

I started at 311, at 5'9". I have lost more then 100 pounds now and I'm not really having an issue with the extra skin yet. My arms look good, so does my legs and neck. The only thing that I have an issue with is my lower abdomen. I have a pouch, but I have noticed that with my workouts it is getting better. I have had three babies, so all that skin is streched out from pregnancys. I plan on having a Tummy Tuck after I get to goal and maintain the weight for about 6 months.

BTW, this is not to personal at all. This is the kind of question that a lot of people have, and exactly what this web site is all about :)

My husband is so unbelievable wonderful, last night he asked how much plastic surgery would be, I had mentioned about my "kangaroo pouch" and I hope that I don't have to much hanging. He is so supportive. He is 12 yrs older than me and will be retiring in a few yrs. So he is trying to see how much we will have to save for it. But since I won't be eating a lot there's a big savings. Ha ha but I will need new clothes, I already need to go down a size since doing the pre op diet. I ve lost 8 lbs woohoo for me.

I consider myself young and I have lost more than 80lbs. ( and I am short 5'4'') I do not have loose skin. I have a few wrinkles??-- thats the best way to describe them?? on my stomach and arms. no hanging flaps or anything. My legs and everywhere else look tight and toned. I am thrilled. I am almost to goal and assume my little wrinkles could get less noticeable in the next few years! yay!!! Stay hydrayed, eat well, and lose slowly if you can-- I ate/ eat 1200-1500 cals a day since month 3. good luck!

I am 5"11" - Started at 291 - Am now 186. I still have a lot of fat that could come off in my stomach, but my thighs are not saggy like they show on TV, but nonetheless they are not so great. My butt went from being huge to nothing so I can feel the skin all over my behind. I have finally comitted to start working out (starting this weekend of course). I had been big since a teenager and had stretch marks. My arms are not that bad, and I honestly don't care so much about my tummy...Just my thighs and butt. I will have something done probably...but I have to see what happens when I start doing my squats.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
