Are We Allowed To Use Spices?

Recommended Posts

In a few days I'll be able to eat cottage cheese and eggs. can we use spices of any type? I like salt/pepper on cottage cheese. I also thought at easter I could make deviled eggs if we can eat mustard/paprika. I know lowfat mayo is approved. it is on my dietery guide. anyone know about mustard, salt, and pepper?

I was never told not to have any spices, but I had pepper on egg whites around 2 weeks out and I could not tolerate it. It upset my stomach and made me cough which hurt my still healing incisions. I wasn't able to stomach pepper until about 5 weeks out. I had no problems with salt, paprika, garlic, onion powder. I never tried mustard, but that is only because I do not like it.

I used cayenne pepper, salsa, Tabasco sauce, Tapitio and adobo sauce since full liquid stage -- oh and of course powdered mustard, curry, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and paprika.

I suppose if your old stomach didn't care your sleeve won't. Your mileage may vary.

Oh baby can we! I liked SOME spice pre-op but post-op I LOVE 'EM. I don't know what changed but I love stuff like black pepper now, whereas I hated it before.

As already stated, if it sets right with you then GO FOR IT!

I'm 7 weeks out & I've been using spices for a while now. I use cayenne pepper, curry powder, tapatio, red pepper flakes, etc. I love spicy food so I still eat them & haven't had any issues. Def don't think salt & pepper would be a problem but everyone is different. Maybe go easy on the pepper initially & see how it goes. Good luck!!

I have used salt and pepper as soon as I was able to eat food that I could use it on. I have snice used many different spices when cooking different things that I can eat. I have also had salsa on scrambled eggs. I think that it will be up to your stomach to see what it will tolerate. Oh and I put onions in almost everything that I make.

After liquids I was desperate for flavor and used anything I could get my hands on to provide some. It was trial and error for a while, but I can tolerate all spices now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
