Recommended Posts

How is everyone doing with their weightloss journey?

Doing good! Went to the gym for the first time last night (I know I should have started a long time ago) down 60#s now from day of surgery!

How are you progressing?

Things are going slowly, but the scales going down....I am down about 42 pounds from surgery, 60 total including preop. I haven't been to the gym yet, I've been in a walking cast/boot for heel/foot problems but I've been going to physical therapy and getting a little workout there 3 times a week :-). I started out wearing size 26 pants and today I fit into a size 20! I am sooo happy :-)

I was really in a bad place after reading the wonderful results of all the April sleevers. I felt like everyone was doing so much better than me. My new dietitian printed me a progress report from when I first started move, the weight loss program for veterans. I weighed in @307 March 2011. Today I weighed in @216.2. After looking at it that way, I'm definitely a winner! I'm not losing as fast as some since being sleeved, but I thank God for my loss. All of us that were sleeved are winners because we took that important step to permanently change our lives. And it feels so good to look in the mirror and actually like what I see! LOL! April sleevers are really rocking the vertical sleeve.

Fannyf,

So nice to meet a fellw veteran. I was in the Army quite a few years ago. I am not service connected or retired - I am glad to hear that they have a program for veterans, i would love to hear more about it.

Congrats on your weight loss. You really are rocking the sleeve and obviously even more important than that, you have embraced the lifestyle change that is required for a permanent change.

My best advice to all sleeved is never to base your results on everyone else's achievements. Out bodies are built differently so we shed, gain and tone differently. In order to succeed in this journey we have to do what is best for us, and by us, I mean our bodies. Don't stress yourself for no reason.

In this weight loss journey the only competition we have are ourselves, plain and simple.

Grocery shopping with my husband is now a joy as I can move without discomfort, and today while in Winn Dixie I noticed how I left my husband to go n search a food prodct that we needed. In the past I would have needed a riding cart, but thanks to God I am able to walk about and look for whatever I need. I felt lighter and energetic, which was different from the previous month.

I am finding that my clothes from a frew years ago fit me now and am looking forward to becoming smaller! I GIVE ALL PRAISES AND HONOR TO GOD FOR ALL HE HAS DONE!!!!!!!!!

JimmyGotsleeved,

I highly agree with your comment because each of our bodies are different and DNA has a lot to with how our bodies react to weight lost and illness. I learned a little while ago not to stress over my progress versus the progress of another person. My mom used to say to me, "Be yourself, and try not to be like someone else".

I totally agree. This is an avenue for us to share with and encourage each other. This should not be about competition

Sorry if some folks are offended.

I was in no way trying to one up anyone.

I agree that we all lose at a different pace,

I have battled it out, had a few really stubborn stalls and had to adjust Protein levels and restrict many " good foods" in order to get back on track.

Again, I was just checking in and sharing a bit of happiness, not trying to be offensive

I don't think you offended anyone. Be proud of what you have accomplished. You are rocking your sleeve. It's great that you've lost so much so fast and being at a lower BMI. I'm not offended... Just envious lol

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
