Shellbell73 4 Posted May 11, 2012 I am one month post-op and I've never really been a liquids person...meaning I've never really drank alot of liquids or really been thirsty until I'm really hot and want to guzzle something. So my problem is that I can't get my fluids in. I'm doing good to get in maybe 20 ozs a day because I'm just not thirsty or I forget cuz I'm not use to drinking so much but I don't feel dehydrated or anything. And eating is another problem I am a very picky eater and am having trouble finding food I like that I'm supposed to eat and feels good in my stomach. It's crazy.... one day last week my mother-in-law was fixing pizzas and chili dogs and was fretting about what was I going to eat. So to calm her worries I mushed up a whole Nathan's hotdog and eat it very slowly and it went down fine no pain or anything but a few days later I try to eat tuna salad and could hardly get down more than a couple bites and they sat in my stomach like a lead brick for hours and the scrambled egg I had last week did the same thing and gave me heartburn? Now somebody please tell me why is that the stuff I shouldn't eat works but the I'm supposed to isn't? I getting very upset with things as they are going now..I can't eat or drink but I don't feel bad or sick. I've lost 20lbs from pre-op diet to now. Dr says just keep trying to get my liquids and my eating will progress when my stomach is ready. Right now I'm craving bad bad things and don't know how much longer I can't hold out. HELP! linkybo 27 Posted May 11, 2012 I agree ShellBell! Drinking is something you do when you're thirsty and then you gulp some down and move on. This whole sipping thing is harder than it sounded. I know I'm always below on my Water, and food has definitely lost it's draw. Even an ounce of tuna or half a scrambled egg feels like it's sitting on my chest for the next 45 minutes. Yogurt is the only food I've found I can eat and not feel suffocated by it. I'm a month also, and it seems like it should be easier to eat now. It's difficult to look ahead and think someday I'll be able (and even WANT to) eat more than an ounce of something at a time. Maybe we just need to be patient. WillowsKnot 71 Posted May 11, 2012 So first three weeks I had to take Philips to keep things moving. Now, just the opposite. Out of the blue, I feel like someone is slipping me Ali. I am running for the bathroom here at work. How crazy. LOL. On a different note, my 14 y.o. is at Worlds of Fun amusement park with her school and that got me to thinking. By fall, I might feel good enough to go, able to walk all of that and ride any rides I want too. LOL. It was a pleasant thought. Happy Friday everyone. 1 Musharooni reacted to this
Lauranbob Mc 94 Posted May 11, 2012 Well I'm on a triple dose lol.... 7am- 2pm- 9pm- It's the only way I'm able to eat with suffering those awful lava burns of the stomach I never had heartburn a day in my life before the surgery. after surgery I had to sleep sitting up it was so bad. My Dr put me on dexilant once a day. (expensive but if you have insurance and there is a card out there right now that you only have to pay a $20 co-pay for the first year) Heartburn is totally gone. LOVE IT
Musharooni 62 Posted May 11, 2012 I never had heartburn a day in my life before the surgery. after surgery I had to sleep sitting up it was so bad. My Dr put me on dexilant once a day. (expensive but if you have insurance and there is a card out there right now that you only have to pay a $20 co-pay for the first year) Heartburn is totally gone. LOVE IT I suffered from heartburn horribly before my surgery and was on omeprazole and was my gp had to up my dose from 1 to 2 times per day, when that wasn't enough she said we needed to try something else because everytime I was feeling heartburn meant the potential for damage to my esophagus was inevitable which meant possibility of esophageal cancer. I was switched to Dexilant 1x per day and never had an issue--even if I missed a dose, I was good for 24 hours. Following my sleeve, my surgeon put me on omeprazole and it was not taking care of me for the full day, I asked if I could go back to the Dexilant and he approved it. Haven't had an issue since. If you are having to take that many doses of Omeprazole, you could be in danger of other issues from the acid. You may want to work with your doctor on finding something else. If so, I think you better post your food and let me know what exercising you are doing. I am not moving any where near that speed. Keep up the wonderful job. WillowsKnot 71 Posted May 12, 2012 Well I finally broke through my 304, 302, 304 pattern. This morning I am 300.4. Yippee. I am so happy. 200's here I come. Once I hit them, I will weigh less than I have in 14 years when I was pregnant and I had to keep taking steroid shots to help develop my girls lungs. I knew she was going to be born early. I feel almost giddy. I am so glad I had this surgery. Seems like when I add in fruit to my diet, I start to go down. Guess I will keep up the apple sauce and melon. Happy Saturday everyone!!! 2 Vsglass and txchickinla reacted to this
