Just want to ditch the whole lady like thing for a minute to ask a few questions that I really am freaking out about!

first of all---how bad and how long is the nausea after surgery? I think of all pains in the world this would have to be my very least favorite. I can handle a lot of things like a champ, but nausea isn't one of them. I've read a lot of people had bad nausea when the pain medicine gave them a bad reaction and stuff like that, but just in general...pain medicine was fine, anestesia was good...how nauseous were you?

okay, and the sweetest topic ever...poop. What is it like after surgery? Do you have to go more often or less often? I mean, my thought is that you are eating much less so it would seem you'd go a lot less, but then I've read tons of people talking about diarhea. SO...what's that all about?

I am going back to work 10 days after surgery and am just super nervous about how these things will effect me then.

Hi ladies!! Congrats on the life change!! I'm 6 wks out tomorrow. So here's my answers to ur ?s based on my experience...Pooping--alot less, at first when ur on liquids..let's say what goes in comes out, based on my experience, now I'm on soft foods and I go about every other day. I have issues with Constipation but I think because it's hard for me to stay hydrated. As for nausea, I was nauseous the first week or so but I couldn't do the broth (I think I was traumatized from the no sodium broth at the hospital) and the Protein I was trying was too sweet for me...now since I'm re-introducing foods I only he nauseous when something doesn't sit right or I take too many bites...it's a learning experience...Good luck on ur journey and know that the pain will pass and the results u see will help u through ur journey!!

I was naseau the day of surgery and through the night. I'm 4 days post op and I actually went back to work today. I'm a teacher in an after school program so I'm only at work 3-4 hours a day and I was fine. And I have yet to poop! I don't feel sick or anything, but I miss my routine. I always get excited when I feel pressure but it's only gas... :/

Oh man, the nausea- yes I hated that mofo with a passion! I woke up after the surgery nauseated, constantly spitting out nothing. I would do my daily lap around the hospital floor, hit my drip to sleep and wake up dry heaving! Kept happening both nights in the hospital. Lasts 3-4 days after surgery.

Did throw up when I got home had a tsp of SF Jello and Tylenol w/ codiene to help with pain, felt spitty then threw up all my hard work of what I just ate. It feels like your tummy is your throat and it was really tight. That was the last time I threw up my 1st week of surgery.

One month out threw up ground turkey, didn't chew enough I was running late for class. Chewed, felt stuck, felt my mouth getting spitty and threw up, felt better, went to class.

Just last week I started feeling nauseated again and I hope this one goes away fast! Feel nauseated drinking Water and taking Vitamins. This just started happening.

Pooping- diarrhea and Constipation will be your two new roommates. Drink plenty of Water, your body will be flushing out. Can be so runny your scared to release gas to being hard as concrete you want people to clap for you when your done going to the bathroom. I have colace pills which helped tremendously. No benefiber or metamucil, my doctor said its too early for my sleeve and I wont be able to take in 64oz the first month and it will back fire and constipate me more. No caffeine, it dehydrates you.

More than anything! WALK- this helps move gas, helps you heal and your body flows better. I did laps around my house, to walking around my neighborhood. It was so helpful and it makes going to the restroom a lot easier. GL :)

I'm almost two weeks post-op I have experienced some nausea. My doc gave me nausea pills that dissolve on my tongue, and I have used those twice, so stop the nausea after taking my Vitamin.

I have always suffered from Constipation, and I think my acid reflux is worse when I am. I've taken Milk of Magnesia twice since surgery to relieve it. I don't "go" a lot, as not a lot is going in. And I agree with whomever said what goes in is what is coming out. It is all liquid thus far. I also think drinking enough Water helps with the constipation.

The worst days were during the first week, and now, I feel fairly normal again, but I am looking forward to non-liquid food in the next couple of days!

Hey guys I will be three weeks out on Wednesday. I just started soft foods and go to the bathroom maybe every other day. My doctor just made me start taking Fiber so that may change. I can honestly say that I have been super lucky with the nausea and vomiting. My nurse told me to really stress about my fear of being nausea after the forget so they have me something before and to this day I have not been nauseous. I do have meds for it but really haven't needed it. I have throw up once but it was from drinking to soon after eating. It wasn't like vomiting from being sick it was literally the Water coming back up. Hope this helps

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
