Sodium Intake In Foods

Recommended Posts

I am totally shocked and I know I probably shouldn't be. I am a total salt lover and I always put salt on everything. I have days when my weight fluctuates and i freak out about it. Today I had a Premier Protein drink and fried egg. I was looking at the values on Myfitnesspal.com and realized that I never logged sodium. So I went to settings and changed the Calcium column to potassium. Wow, I was totally shocked in the salt I eat. I'm already at 528 potassium That's not including the salt that I add to my food. This is why my weight fluctuates so much. I am choosing to change this bad habit right now, I don't need that much salt in my diet if this is the havoc that I go through.

Just is so insightful, now I can change this habit. ;)

Yep!!!.. High sodium intakes makes me retain Water... like, 2-5 lbs... That's huge for me because I'm losing a little slowly... And my blood pressure has been elevated since surgery... so, my nurse prac wants to me watch my sodium intake more closely..

I hope I can get a handle on it.. I definitely don't want to take pills for my BP any longer than I have to..

I try to never add salt if I can help it. Its "hidden" in so many things. I use Mrs Dash, and it gives good flavor that I can handle!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
