Hi! My name is Bethany and I am having my sleeve done on Thursday 03/22! I am so excited/nervous!! I currently weigh 263 and my goal is 150. I went last year to a seminar done by another doctor in my area and loved him---but didn't feel like his staff were very helpful. After looking at my insurance I was told that I did not qualify and then they sent me on my way with no further instruction. So after a few months my husband thought I should go to a different doctor that he had heard about so I went on to one of their siminars expecting to be told the same thing about my insurance. D. Penningtons staff were amazing!!! they helped me figure out exactly what I needed to qualify with my insurance and were able to get a pre approval for me! So noe here I am just a few days from surgery! I really would like to have someone I can talk to through all of this and so if anyone is going through the procedure close to the same time as me...let me know and we can be pen pals or something :)

Hi! My surgery is 4/9, I'm 260 right now and my goal is 150 as well. Glad you were able to get the insurance squared away and you feel comfortable with your surgeon. Are you on a preop diet yet?

Best wishes for a complication-free surgery and speedy recovery. The odds are on your side that you should do very well. I know you must have pre-op jitters and I do, too, because my surgery date is 3/28. Keep us posted!

Good luck to you all who are getting sleeved soon!! I was the queen of jitters/nervousness pre-op and literally drove myself batty going back & forth between worry and excitement. I was sleeved 2/13 and can tell you thus far I am so thrilled with how well it's gone from surgery to post-op recovery to now. The first few days after surgery weren't 'easy' but they were do-able. A little pain med liquid and lots of rest and Water and frequent short walks around the house or neighborhood and you'll recover great. Follow your doctor's orders! Best wishes for speedy recoveries and keep us posted!

p.s. take chapstick to the hospital if you don't like dry lips! Not sure if it was the anesthesia or what, but my mouth was sooooo dry for a couple days post-op and I was so thankful to have my chapstick! :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
