Sick Of Chocolate Protein Shakes? Try This!

Recommended Posts

I never thought I would say this, but I'm actually getting tired of chocolate (well, chocolate Protein that is, haven't had REAL chocolate since early December). I know I didn't invent this, but I thought I would share my morning fruity protein smoothy:

2 scoops strawberry protein whey

1 cup frozen strawberries

1 cup Trop 50 orange juice

---------

Purée in a blender

Makes about 12oz

300 cal

38g protein

Thanks for posting this, sounds delicious, but I am worried about the citric acid. I will try it at 6 weeks out and see how it goes.

Calitrells, most definitely wait til at least 6 weeks post op. I should have put that in my post! I'm 12 weeks out so the acid in the oj and fruit don't bother me. Plus, the whey Protein mixed in makes it not so harsh on the stomach compared to a straight glass of oj :)

Dorrie Robles-It does contain 20g of sugar :(...but I have diluted it with a cup of water/ice (blend) before which made it about 16oz, that's two separate drinks for me (10g sugar each drink, then I'd freeze the other half).

I use the GNC Gold Standard vanilla Ice Cream whey Protein mix. Then, I add sugar free Jello powders for all my different flavors. I love putting in cheesecake jello and a little bit of cinnamon. Tastes great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
