Caradina 65 Posted March 16, 2012 My doctor requires a 2 week pre op diet to shrink the liver. It is not a liquid diet. The requirements are basically no sugar, and less than 30 carbs daily. He said to eat mostly lean Protein, like the Atkins diet. I'm followign it religiously... and I'm gaining! Fast! I also am constantly hungry and have constant heartburn from all the meat and eggs. I'm also exhausted and retaining Water like mad. Ideas? I'm tempted to just drink Protein Shakes and nothing else until I go next week, because this diet is making me feel horrible. mesaucedo 207 Posted March 16, 2012 I too am doing a pre-op diet, although mine is mainly shakes, yogurt and cottage cheese with a little lean meat for dinner. I am doing it by choice, my doc requires 3 days yogurt and that's it. I have gained a two pounds in the past 4 days! I am hoping it is some sort of Water retention! I feel super sluggish too so I may just wait until 3 days before and do the yogurt one. I was just excited to lose weight like everyone else!
Caradina 65 Posted March 16, 2012 Sorry you're in the same boat as me, but I'm relieved that i;m not the only one gaining on this diet. I think in my case it might just be a TON of Fluid. I feel like even my face is swollen. Ugh. I only have to deal with this for 6 more days.....
SexySlim 107 Posted March 16, 2012 I'm also voluntarily doing a two week pre-op diet. My surgeon only requires 3 days liquids. I started yesterday. shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch and dinner is meat and veggies. I'm staying off the scale cuz I know it will make me mad. I just keep saying to myself my liver is shrinking and I will have an easier transition to the post-op diet. Sent from my iPhone using VST
BeautyVGSJourney 99 Posted March 21, 2012 Caradina, make sure you are not consuming more salt that your body is used to. Sometimes when I change my diet to healthier stuff I notice I add more salty stuff to balance out. Some people are way more sensitive to Water retention, you might want to check this and see if that is the case (specially if you are used to drinking cafeinated sodas, teas, coffee or other thins and have stoped them). Also maybe take an Epsom salt bath, that will help you feel better (very relaxing) but many people find it to also help them loose some water weight. Good luck!
