ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted March 16, 2012 Hey, thank you. Do you think I am too young for the surgery? 5'1 255 lbs hi - if you meet all the "credentials, morbities, and BMI" you qualify - as being too young? my answer would be no your not to young. Most people on this board wish they could have done this when they were younger. Me too. Good luck - kathy 1 Amanda 3.0 reacted to this
Amanda 3.0 140 Posted March 16, 2012 I am in my mid/late 40s and I wish I hadn't spent so many years yo-yo dieting and hating myself. When I was in my 20s, people were still getting their jaws wired shut to lose weight. If you have been overweight for a period of time and are willing to do the work, much of which is in your head rather than your stomach, then go for it. If you are 255 pounds at age 20, you would probably benefit a lot from the surgery rather than battling this demon for another 10 years. Heck, keep those years of your life. As a yo-yo dieter, I can tell you that for me, skin was much more forgiving when I was younger. But the loose skin is a small price to pay for being more normal in size. 1 sweetz428 reacted to this

minaleigh 95 Posted March 16, 2012 I don't want to be a downer, but I'm 22 and already noticing some excess skin. To be honest though, I think my case is because I've been overweight/obese over half my life since I was 9 and because of genetics. I have faith that once I'm closer to goal, my skin will start bouncing back. Just need to exercise more! 1 Renzster reacted to this
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted March 16, 2012 You'll have SOME, guaranteed, but it could range from very little to pretty bad. It depends on how elastic your skin is, how long you've been overweight, where the majority of your weight is, etc. Bottom line, loose skin >>>> fat.

Hi Minaleigh, one thing to consider is that it can take a couple of years for your skin to catch up with you. Your sig mentions your sleeve date as just four months ago. I am not saying that skin may not sag but I have heard that it might take two years to see what the skin will do on its own. I am in my mid/late 40s and I think I might like an arm lift, but I will wait two years at least to see what happens as this would be considered cosmetic surgery (by insurance) for me. Maybe I will be okay. I hope your skin firms up over time, I definitely think younger is better.
PAstudent 117 Posted February 26, 2017 Sorry for reviving such an old post, but I'd love to see update pictures or learn some loose skin tips if anyone is willing to share! 2 ProudGrammy and riahslife reacted to this
hmills653 365 Posted April 19, 2017 I was thin in high school then mid twenties 5th pregnancy went over 200# and haven't been able to get under since. I've tried it all. Thousands of dollars down the drain. I am so ready to have surgery, feel better, get more active and feel good again. Plan on finishing up grad school after my surgery is done and maybe saving up for some plastic surgery since my doc already told me I'll need a Tummy Tuck. Combo of older skin and already having an apron after all my babies. I still have alot of life to live. I've thought about approaching my daughter about surgery as an option as she's my size at 23 years old but I don't want to make her feel bad about herself. She's beautiful but already had back pain and knee pain. I'll wait until she sees my results then if it comes up we can talk about it. But I say go for it and live your life just be sure to commit to the lifestyle changes in your diet and activity.
