SweetP 18 Posted March 15, 2012 I was sleeved on 2/14 and had a post op visit with my doc today. I've lost 13 pounds since the day of surgery . They all say I'm doing great but I guess I just expected the weight to come off really quickly in the begining. I have been keeping a food diary online and when I told the doc my daily calories are around 800 he said that is why my weight loss is slow. He said I need to eat at least 1000 calories a day, up to 1200. I was just wondering how many calories everyone else is eating or what does your doctor recommend? Pookeyism 1,143 Posted March 15, 2012 I think I get in way less than that sometimes, and that is probably one of the factors for why I have stalled so often. It wouldn't hurt anything to advance to 1000 calories for a couple of weeks. Keep it low carb! Good luck and let us know what you decide to do, and how it turns out. AliveAgain 283 Posted March 15, 2012 Man, my doctor (or I should say his nutritionist) tell me to stay below 600 and I'm 6 weeks out. I've also been experiencing my first stall for the last two weeks, coincidence? I'm curious what others are saying...
thinoneday 445 Posted March 15, 2012 In the very early beginning I was eating about 500 - 700 calories a day. . now at 3 years out I have anywhere between 1200 - 1300 healthy calories, and am maintaining beautifully. . not gaining or losing, just staying the same and feel great. . . Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted March 15, 2012 I eat around 900 calories daily. I lost a lot of weight in the beginning and don't know if I was in a stall the first 6 weeks. Then I started weighing myself because I wanted to see the scale move. Ha! That changed everything. Stall time and now it's a slow but steady pace. But at least I'm losing it. So I have noticed that there are others around the 1 year mark that are at goal or just about there. So I'm happy I look as good as I do now. Let us know how your doing eating 1000 calories and more. Soon2BMiniMommy 92 Posted March 15, 2012 emlefe, I think that is WAY too low. I haven't heard of a doctor or nutritionist say that, even in the beginning (not that they don't, but man, that sure seems low!!) Most of us scratch our head right after surgery trying to figure out how to get in 800-1000/day! And most of us don't, at the beginning. I agree that your weight loss will be slower, maybe even stall if your calories stay that low. I'm concerned about that number, especially at six weeks out?? How are you doing with that? Are you finding it hard to stay in that range now that you are eating more?? I would have a hard time eating only 600 calories and that would lead to 'diet guilt' which I promised myself I would NEVER have again, which is why I had this surgery!! SweetP, I think between 1000-1200 is good, too. I have been in a stall for 6 weeks, so can't report lately, but my weight loss would slow down before if I dropped below 1000. Or if I ate too many carbs Just in the last two days, I'm trying to get up to 1200 to see if that breaks my stall. I'll let you know! But your weight loss so far is great! Don't get discouraged! It's way too early for that!!
FishingNurse 1,211 Posted March 15, 2012 I have been eating 1200-1500 cals a day since 2.5 months out. I am almost to goal. I (or should I say WE used to eat 3000-6000 calories easy daily pre-sleeve.) With that being said, my body would not appreciate eating 1000 a day or less for longer than that time post op when out tummy was so swollen! 1 coloradogrl reacted to this
JayhawkJess33 25 Posted March 15, 2012 I can't comment from postop experience as I won't be sleeved until next Tuesday but my nut told me that I need to stay at LEAST over 900 cal/day in order for my body not to go into starvation mode and my weight loss stall. She said I need to factor in the amount of exercise I do as well to make sure I am ending up with 900 net calories and that might mean replacing calories I burn with exercise with more Protein calories. I would guess you might lose more if you up your calories a little bit. emlefe, how ARE you doing that!?? I did a Physicians Weight Loss program last year and I had to stay at 500 cals/day and I thought I would die.......it was ridiculously strict and definitely left me feeling deprived and "dieting". That seems super low, especially for 6 weeks out. Bless your heart!
atkinsoncl 62 Posted March 15, 2012 The nutrionist told me that at the beginning, I would probably only be taking in 600 calories. But when all is healed and feeling good, I will should stick between 1000-1200 calories a day.
New1 201 Posted March 22, 2013 Thought I'd ask how everyone is doing and see how many calories people are taking in now. I'm 1 year post op and 15ish pounds away from goal and its feeling like a lost cause! In the last 3 weeks my calories have inched up to 1100 and I feel terrible about it. (Don't know why I just do). Just trying to feel out what others are into.
kiki1196 101 Posted March 23, 2013 I was told to stay under 1000 calories a day but I am also only 4'10" so that may have something to do with it. I'm 3 weeks out and doing about 700 a day. 1 New1 reacted to this
Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted March 23, 2013 There is no way that I would have been able to eat 1000 calories at a month out. I am 6.5 months and jut now probably eat closer to 900-1000 healthy calories. I think you need to stick to the lower calories in the beginning, that is how you will lose your weight and get to your goal and make the most of the first 6 months. I ate 600-700 during my weight loss phase and also stuck to low carb.
royalsecret 29 Posted March 23, 2013 My doctor told me to stay at 600-700 calories until I hit goal. I am at 3 months and am averaging 850 a day. 1 New1 reacted to this
New1 201 Posted March 23, 2013 Yeah, I think I'm going to try to go lower to lose these last killer 15lbs. Maybe aim for 900 or so. Thanks
