I'm still pre-op...but when I lost 120 pounds (the first time) I used leslie Sansone walk away the pounds....low impact and you can use the weights if you want to....I plan to buy the DVDs when I get closer to my surgery date....

My doctor didn't clear me for any exercising other than walking until after 6 weeks.

Now at home, I use a stability ball, hand weights and a resistance band. I use a variety of exercises including some videos including Zumba and 10 minute workouts.

SJW, Walking is fantastic for early post-op! Good job on that! :) You'll want to add some weights for arm toning, and probably some calisthenics (sit-ups, push-ups, planks, jumping jacks, etc) to help with toning other muscles. The intensity and amount of weight will depend on your gender and your goals.

I suggest that you check out posts by several of our veteran sleevers to see what their routines have been. You Tube has tons of exercise videos to check out and possibly incorporate into your routine and, yes, Leslie Santone's videos are great for helping you incorporate weights into your routine.

Good luck! :)

I absolutely adore Callanetics (and no, that's not a mispelling) - it's lovely to do (really!) and it takes off inches like no other exercise I've ever tried. I haven't done it yet post-op (I'm in my third week and my body's not yet ready for it, but I look forward to starting it again soon.)

I am going to follow you site. I have to confess that I am 7 weeks post op and have not done any exercise. I hate exercise and live in the Caribbean. It is too hot here to walk although I could go early in the morning but use the excuse that I want my husband to join me. I won't feel safe walking alone. But I know I need to exercise. Why can't I get started? I am ashamed of myself for being so reluctant to start. I hate to join a gym but almost feel I will have to because staying home all day, I just don't use the dvds or the exercise bike. I have some weights and a Wii fit but am still stalling. I must read some posts I guess and get myself more motivated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
