Vets What Was Your Favorite Mushy Food............

Recommended Posts

I am officially two weeks post op today. I had my NUT visit today and was given a list of foods I can eat for the next four weeks. Of course the list has eggs, refried Beans, cheese, ect. I went to the store today and brought everything on the list. The funny thing is I feel very overwhelmed by food right now. The pre-surgery me never felt like that. But the new me is like ok what should I eat........ We went over portion sizes at my appt. and they recommend eating 1/4 cup of food at a time. I'm also worried about the list and hoping I will like some of the things that I never would have ate before like cottage cheese YUCK. Also they have ricotta cheese????? I know about ricotta on lasagna and in food but are you suppose to just scoop it out and eat it plain. Also with the refried beans do you just eat them plain?

So VETS I need your help with this or else I'll be eating eggs for the next 4 weeks!!!

Refried Beans and cheese (mixed and warmed up in micro, can add salsa or sour cream on top, you'll be surprised how good this is!), Eggface's ricotta bake (nummy - that was my fauxsagna!), and pureed Soups (campbells bean with bacon, clam chowder, split pea) and my homemade pureed black bean Soup. A bit later, canned chicken breast salad mixed with mayo or avocado, or both!

Once I was able to eat eggs, I've been hooked ever since. I eat them still nearly every single day. Yummyy!!

Beans are great as well. Just take your time. If you need to take a time out and have a Protein shake. I know I substituted several meals a day at that stage with Protein shakes and got back to eating real food slowly.

:)

Day six for me and I am already sooooo looking forward to mushies! I love micro-warmed cottage cheese with cinn/splenda already from my pre-op diet. Looking forward to healing and moving up the ladder to real food some day soon!

Mix some cottage and ricotta cheese together- sprinkle on garlic, a bit of spaghetti sauce and top with mozzarella. Microwave until heated through and ENJOY!! Super full of Protein too!

Wow, 1/4 cup of food at a time? I'd love to know if you actually manage to do that. I've also just started my 3rd week post-op, and I can barely eat 1 tablespoon at a time (and sometimes not even that much). My surgeon's office recommended starting off with 1-2 tablespoons at a time, 5-6 times a day (this is for 2nd week post-op when I started mushy foods) but I just can't do it. The most I can do is 4 times a day, and as I said, about 1 tablespoon at a time. Any more and I get the most awful feeling which usually lets up only when I throw up... not pleasant. I must admit that as much as I prepared myself for this surgery and read up about it, I didn't realize I'd be eating THIS little. I've always been a really, really high-volume eater so this is the weirdest experience for me.

So good and very easy to go down thanks guys. I'm going to try refried Beans very soon. Tried eggs today and they don't taste so great ugh. Also I can only eat a couple of spoonfuls at a time and I get so full.

Starting to realize that I don't enjoy eating anymore its just something I have to do.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
