Hi so i have been researching the gastric sleeve for a while now and i have decided to go throught with it but the dr that i amgoing to is in mexico. I have done a lot of research on this dr and hospital in tj mexico, the cost is in the price range that i can afford but everyone is telling me now to do the surgery because it would be signing my death wish due to the long term effects, can anyone give me some feed back if you had your surgery in mexico and if so have you had any affects that have been really bad. I am insulin dependant diabetic that take alomost 130 units of insulin a day, the way that i look at it is if I can reduce the amount of insulin i take it will help with the other organs that are having issues due to all of the medicaine that i take.

Planning on using the Bluepoint Group in Northern VA. Been thinking about this for awhile... appointment with surgeon on Friday. Was contemplating another surgeon but after much consideration realized that the aftersupport is what will really help me. The Fair Oaks Hospital in Northern VA is a bariatric center of excellence. So utilizing a surgeon connected to them will be a big plus.

So much to learn.... need to be prepared....

Thank you for all of the nice welcomes. I dont have medical insurance so I will be going to Mexico to have this done. I am thinking about sometime in Feburary so this way I can save up the money. I have done a ton of research and I am really looking forward to this surgery. There a couple of things that I am really nervious about FAILING, FAILING and FAILING. I have never stuck with a diet in my life. I get fed up becasue I dont see any results so now I am scard that it is not going to work for me either. The other thing i am scard of is loosing my hair. I went through Chemo when I was 15 and lost all of my hair I dont want that to happen again. I know that there is going to be ALOT of emotional issues that will be happening.

Does anyone have any advicse on how to get through the emotional apart.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
