Nsv - Getting Loads At The Moment! ;)

Recommended Posts

Well I finally plucked up the courage to join a face to face bariatric support group yesterday, and it was great!!

Most people were pre-op, so I got a few slightly puzzled looks when I walked in, but when I explained who I was and why I was there someone said to me "Thank you so much for joining us, you are what we all want to become".

In my logical mind I know I am at goal, but I was so shocked to hear it.

I'll definitely stick with the group, I'm hoping it will start to help me cut through some of the psychological issues!

Thanks for listening x

Cludgie - I too have recently started attending a face to face support group. I have recommended this site to everyone I have met face to face. It is amazing how much knowledge about WLS I have gotten from my year plus on this forum. As much as I love this forum, it is nice to visit face to face with people at different points in the process.

HI all, like many, i had to go to 3 support meetings before my WLS which was 12/15/11 Most everyone though at the meeting were pre-op, I know, I know, so whats wrong with that!! Nothing of course!!!! Oh well - i should have stuck it out and gone to other meetinings to meet others.

i'm gonna try again, maybe i will find some others who have already had the surgery. It is true meeting other people that already have had the WLS so you could talk face to face would be nice, sharing your experiences.I would love to pick up pointers.

BTW SKCUNNINGHAM - great new picture - you are basically at goal now - you look mar......rvalous :tongue2:

Best

Kathy

Congrats! I attended 1 support group and there were 4 other people besides myself. There was only 1 other person with a sleeve and the others were RnY. I didn't get much out of the meeting, the other person that was sleeved was very quiet and came in late. I will have to try another group. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
