First Stall, Getting Discouraged :(

Recommended Posts

Since my surgery on Dec. 20, 2011, I have been losing 2-3 pounds a week for a total loss of 35 pounds. The past 2 weeks, I have lost only 1 pound a week and it is really discouraging compared to the past weeks. I started working with a personal trainer yesterday and will be going about 2 times a week. I am noticing that I have been hungrier than before, but I am not going crazy, staying around 1200 calories. I have also started eating a little bit of crackers and pita bread, but not a lot (3 crackers or 1/4 pita bread at a time). I don't know what else to to...I guess it was bound to happen, I was just hoping to have the 3 pound a week weight loss a little longer.

Hey, I had my surgery on December 7th and have lost 43 pounds. I lost 21 pounds that first month, but I did have a stall by the third week. I was annoyed. I am still losing and sometimes I go a week without losing weight. I know it is frustrating, but you are going to lose the weight. You seem to have done well so far. You just need to keep doing what you are doing. Maybe lay off the crackers. My surgeon has me on 400-600 calories until I lose 75% of my weight. I guess some doctors are different with what they want others to do.

Ladies I stalled early on a lot. I thought I would NEVER get under 200lbs. I was at 202 for like a month I swear! But it comes off. Here I am 6 pounds from goal! I promise I thought I was done losing so many times but I keep losing-- I even lost 2lbs last week and I'm 7 months out. Be patient-- you will keep losing!

Don't worry about it :) This is perfectly normal. You're hit with a stall because your system is adjusting to the new diet. I recommend you do more than just having a personal trainer twice a week. I really urge you to join a gym and work on your cardio burning at least 500 calories a day and start light weight lifting.

Feeling hungrier is a good sign because your system is telling you to provide more food and this will in turn kick start your metabolism and start burning off fat again.

Also try switching food types that also helps a lot with breaking a stall.

Good luck :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
