Praying for you and ASSURING YOU it gets soo much easier! The first few days are the hardest of all!! you will be so proud you have passed them strong and willing to go on!:) it is actually the most mentally challenging part of the whole process:)

This will pass and you will look back with a little smile on your face about how strong you were to go through such a hard time.

My only advice is to try to search the board for more ideas about the liquid phase, may be you will come up with something more satisfying.

Hang in there:)

Find a hobby! Seriously... Something to keep your mind focused. For me, it was reading and work. I was an AMAZING employee through the liquid phase. ;)

Best wishes!

Amanda

P.S. For what it's worth, I also found hot liquids seemed to trick my head hunger.

Are you taking a PPI? It could be gas? Can you increase your Protein Shakes to help settle the hungry monster in your tummy? It will get better. SOmetimes it takes longer for the hunger part to subside, but it will. ;)

The first week or 2 after surgery I had these crazy hunger pains. Or what I thought were hunger pains. But it turns out it was acid in my stomach so I had to change my acid reducing meds to something with a stronger dose. Are you taking anything to reduce stomach acid?

Oh and I cried A lot over food the first 2 weeks. It's a learning process and honestly I think it's ok to cry and be upset because it's emotional as well as physical to make all these changes. I crunched on ice when I felt like I needed to really chew something.

You can do this! Maybe change up your Soups or create your own :) I had to really get creative. Once I chewed something I had made for my family to eat and spit it out because I knew i couldn't swallow it. But i wanted to eat it so bad. That was gross and I don't recommend doing it. Just take it one day at a time. That's all any of us can do.

I never lost my hunger so I sipped ALL DAY LONG at your stage and that kept me satisfied. I would switch from pre-made Protein Drinks (different flavors), to warm Unjury chicken Soup, to homemade Protein drinks doctored up with Torani sugar free, to homemade strained beef soup, decaffeinated tea etc. (Everything room temperature of warm worked best for me. Still does actually with the exception of the sugar free popsicles.) The key for me was to sip constantly! I hope this helps.

I did get my PPI meds changed. I see the Dr on Friday and can't wait to discuss some of the issues I'm having.

Hi! I'm on day 16 and thought I was going to loose it and just bite into a cheeseburger or a chip or ANYTHING!!! Don't worry, It'll get better!!! Yesterday I was finally able to start my pureed diet and I had bean Soup with a spoon full of mashed up avocado and I was overwhelmed with joy!!! It tasted so good, and you only have a couple of days till you get there! Once you're on your third week you can start with the creams and the yogurth and you'll feel sooo much better. Take a deep breath and remember that this is a long journey and the first two weeks are the worst!!! You're not alone though, we're here for you!!!

The PPI's are good but also try a tums (dissolve in your mouth do not chew). There is an orange creme sugar free tums that works wonders for me!

Good luck!

Thanks suite bliss for asking this question. I am on day 4 and tomorrow I'm going on full liquids. I am already struggling. It doesn't help that my brother and his girlfriend have all sorts of junk food around the house. I'm stuck at his house for another 2 weeks...the most difficult time. Everyone else who replied I can't thank you enough. I hope I can get to the stage of being supportive like you folks are.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
