Getting My Sleeve Monday March 19

Recommended Posts

I am on day two of my week long liquid diet and I spent yesterday sort of curled up in a ball with a horrible headache. Today is a little better thank goodness. I am just trying to get centered before surgery time gets here. I have had a few moments of doubt. My family is really having a hard time with the upcoming changes. Its like we speak the language of food and we may not know how to talk anymore. Its literally like they are acting like I am moving to another land. I have already had a few crying jags and wondering if I am strong enough to handle all this change. I hope Im not the only one struggling with these preop issues.

I too am having surgery on the 19th and am getting a little nervous. I don't have to move to full liquids till the day before the surgery but I am adding alot more liquids this week to help ramp up to that point. My kids are older and heading out of the house so it's just me and my husband and he said he was going to lighten his eating habits so that it wouldn't make is so tough on me and so that he too can become healthier. Keep going, you can do it and in the end it will be all worth it.

You can still speak the language. You just wont talk as much! LOL. Little portions of what you like. It does not look all doom and gloom to me. The end game is our goal and Portion Control is my problem and this surgery will give me the tools. Best of luck. You will do fine and still speak the language of food! You will just speak a little softer huh?

My surgery is on the 15th and my husband is having issues with me having the surgery. He's mainly worried about my health but also how it is going to affect him. I told him we'll just be eating healthier and smarter, something that we both need to do. In all honesty, I'm hoping that the positive changes that will occur with my body will motivate him to make some positive changes in his lifestyle. We're not talking a different language but maybe a different dialect. :D

Thank you guys for the encouragement. I have told them I will still eat with them just less but I dont think they believe it. My husband already eats healthy and small portions so we will be simpatico. I am just going to be positive and be selfish for a little while to take care of me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
