Stopping Birth Control Pills Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi sleevers. Were any of you required to stop your BCPs before having surgery. I'm 40 years old and am on the continuous pill which presents me from getting my period (sorry guys). I love not getting my period, but I am worried about the risk of blood clots from taking the pill, and with surgery I am even more concerned. Any thoughts on staying on versus stopping the pill before surgery?

Thanks, Shan

Hi! I didn't have to stop before my surgery, but after surgery I was told to use another form of birth control because the pill doesn't work the same with our new tummies (I was told why, but can't remember now!).

I use Depo-Provera (injection) and I do not have periods at all! I have been on it for the most part of 17 years, I've only gotten off it twice (and I have 2 kids to prove it), while trying to lose weight that never came off. I get my shot once every 3 months and I wouldn't trade it for anything! :)

I am on Mircette and was not required to stop. My doctor actually encouraged me to make sure I take them exactly as directed post-op as it's easier to become prego as the weight drops and so dangerous in the first year post-op.
