You guys i am on an emtional rollercoaster and feel so alone. :.-( both my husband and i had gastric sleeve surgery last tuesday and since then i feel all these sad/strong sadness inside and anxiety. I miss food, i miss going out to eat with my family and they had a party last night and could not go because i cry when i see everyone else getting to chew and enjoy the food. All my activities before surgery revolved around food and eating with my family and friends. My husband locks his emotions inside and doesnt talk about it. But i just cry and i want to get out and take a walk or ride the four wheeler but its been raining since surgery and we cant ride dirtbikes/four wheelers for a month. I feel like the biggest baby. :.-( im so glad i can get my feelings out on this web site and i wish i could snap my fingers and it be 7 weeks out and enjoy eating again like a normal person. I know we physically cant eat as much but its still closer to my normal life then this liquid diet. :-(

I know exactly how you feel. I'm having some emotional difficulties as well when it comes to food. Don't worry about venting or seeming like a baby, you just went through a lot of stress and its normal to feel like you've lost something. It's a time of bereavement for us. Take it a day at a time and visualize why you had the surgery. That helps me :) hope you feel better soon.

Grieving food is something we have to go through. You made a decision to change your lifestyle but now the consequences of that decision are more real. It's good to grieve and you almost have to expect it. You're in Stage 4 which is depression, reflection and loneliness. The next stage is the upward turn, where you start to adjust to it. You are perfectly normal. I'll let you in on a secret. You will enjoy those outings with your family and food again, eating smaller quantities, only you will be so happy with your new self that you'll do it even more than before. No need to hide from our weight embarrassment and it will be time to get out and enjoy your new life!

It gets much better! I am 3 months out - you will eat again - you just won't need to eat large amounts because you will fill up so quickly. I still crave sugar but don't binge on it anymore. Hang in there! :)

It only seems like it will be this way forever, but it won't. I keep forgetting myself, that I won't be blending my food forever, and I get all happy thinking about chewing in a week. It's been a long....6 weeks since I've chewed. You WILL get there. AND.....when you start looking at that shrinking body in the mirror....you're not gonna give a rat's patooty what you're giving up for now! :D You'll start looking at people indulging and think "they don't know what they're missing!" Chin up! It's all normal feelings that will pass and/or change. :)

Completely normal. I am a month out and just starting mushies. The first 2 weeks I cried about everything. It is still not a picnic, but it certainly is better than it was then.

I had some very emotional moments early out. I got so tired of the monotony of mushy/pureed, bland foods and Protein shakes. It wasn't that I necessarily craved anything "bad" - I just wanted something with some flavor and texture! Looking back, it really did pass quickly - but it certainly didn't feel that way at the time.

Hang in there!

Thanks you guys! I know this is sad to say, but i think this is the hardest thing ive ever gone through. I want flavor so bad and the Protein waters like nectar and Isopure make me want to gag now and my husband made Jello with Protein Powder and it was DISCUSTING! It had a salty ending to the jello and changed the flavor. Things that have helped me through today were healthy choice Tomato Soup and vanilla carb and sugar control yogurt. Do yall know if greek yogurt is ok?

I did greek yogart in week 2 and my sleeve loved it. Just get the vanilla or honey flavor to avoid fruit.< /p>

I felt the same way-- this is only temporary!! Hang in there you will get through it. And this is when you lose a lot weight-- it's so worth it in the end! I promise.

Definitely worth it. I eat all kinds of good food now. There is so little room I do not waste my time on junk. I'm a bit of a Protein junky now. Even the crackers and bread I eat have at least 10 grams a serving or I don't even go there.

The liquid phase will soon be over and a bit of refrieds or mashed potato will be like Nirvana.

4-wheeling huh? We have two 4WD and motorcycles. Fun!

Like everyone said, this is normal. My boyfriend also bottles things up. Just talking about this to your husband will probably make him aware of his feelings. He will know that he is not the only one. In the meanwhile, you have us! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
