Sleeved 3/05/2012 - First Real Post

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My name is Chris and I am from Fenton, mi (north Detroit). I was sleeved on 3/05 by Dr.Ali Elhorr of Dearborn Bariatrics. I am 41 years old and have been married to my wife Betsy for almost 18 years. She is being sleeved on 3/21 and we are going to do this together.

I have lost 31 pounds since the first of February and I feel great. I do seem to get "hungry" later in the day. However, I am learning to deal with that via luigis Italian ice (lol).

We were talking about our vacation in July this year and thinking about Yellowstone Park. All of a sudden I thought of the things we will be able to do tis year, that in years past, we would not have considered...

White Water rafting

Zip lines

Water parks

Mountain hiking

Biking

Horseback riding

Kayaking

It has made me realize how much of our lives we have wasted "sitting on the porch" watching the world go by.

how wonderful that you and DW will be doing this weight loss journey together. I think other family members have been in the boat helping, supporting each other too.

It is exciting knowing that you will be able to do more and more in life. Health will improve so much - and thats very exciting. Just life in general will improve day by day.

good luck

best wishes

WTG Chris! It's good that you and your wife are undergoing the surgery because when only 1 spouse loses the weight and the other is overweight, it can (and often does) have a very negative impact on the marriage. One of the reasons for the psych eval is to help determine the strength of the marital relationship prior to surgery. And, as for your goals, I think they're great! "Normal" people just don't understand the travails of obesity and the impact it has on our lives. I don't get sleeved until March 28, 2012 and I can't wait! I'm 64 years old and my wife of 36 years has always been a normal size and she's still my "arm candy." She's never made my weight an issue, but I know she's excited at the prospect of me getting rid of my excess baggage. Best of luck to both of you and get started on that bucket list as soon as you can!

Ted

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
