Well day 7 post op did not start off great. 4:30am woke up with stabbing pain in right upper leg. Quick look on Internet and suggests DVT. Called taxi and went to hospital A&E. Leg swelled up a bit and very tender to touch. D-dimer blood test confirmed very high levels. Given a 5 day corse of Anticoagulation medicine to inject tummy and next Friday go for scan on legs. The pain now is a hot dull burning sensation. Awful feeling.

When I see a post like this it makes me so scared of the possible complications. I'm so glad you didn't mess around & went to ER immediately. Wishing you a good day of rest. Pls keep us posted on your progress. P.S. I have my first consultation in 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear of your complication, but that is common risk with any surgery. Had you traveled a great distance to get your surgery? Even flying kills people. I recently saw where a family flew to Florida to Disney, the dad ended up getting a clot from the flight and died in his hotel room. You were smart enough to go get it checked out, so you should be on your road to recovery. The best of luck with your recovery. It'll all be worth it in the end.

One of the guys I work with had a DVT with pulmonary embolus. He runs marathons and is in great shape. DVT's can occur in anyone but surgery and immobilization are big risk factors. Sorry to hear that you had one.

Jason, Great job of looking out for yourself! So many would have ignored that as random pain. You saved your own life!! There are two things about DVT's to remember. To prevent them, you must be active, and they can kill you in seconds. I assume you're self-injecting either Lovenox or Heparin. Be alert to any changes in your perception or ability to walk, talk, stand and do not hesitate to call for an ambulance if you or your roommates/partner notice any changes.

I had a DVT 3 months before sleeve surgery and my doctor actually put me in the hospital for the critical first three days because I live alone. Once you are cleared for activity again, be sure you get at least 30 minutes of activity in per day (which works great with needing to increase exercise levels after surgery anyway) and be prepared to take warfarin or another blood thinner for at least 3 months, but probably more. I'm on month 9 of mine.

Good luck!!

Hi All, just returned from my DVT scan and got the all clear. No Warfarin tablets, Yippee. Told to wear compression socks for the next 4 weeks. Don't have a problem with that. Thanks guys for your kind words. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
