Recommended Posts

So excited! Finally approved for surgery today! My surgery date has been schedule for October 29th.

They told me to start The liquid diet the 15th? Does that sound about right?

Had my Medicare VSG on October 3rd. The way it works at my hospital is they do the VSG "before" they get payment approval from medicare! Odd way of doing things, director feels I have a slam dunk case for my Medicare Administrative review and will fight for me if they prove to be stubborn.

Everything has gone very smoothly thus far, but I must say I'm already frustrated with another 2 full weeks of a liquid only diet. The head hunger is no joke, I've never wanted something as simple as a plain turkey sandwich in all my life! Everything looks so good, but I know it's completely off limits until the restriction is lifted.

I got approved today. The lady said I'd be getting another call within the next couple days to schedule surgery.

Greg

I know exactly what you mean with above statement

had my sleeve 12/15/11 - - been on disability retirement past 5 years since i was 53 - thus medicare. BCBS is my secondary from my office.

dr.s office told me they didn't accept Medicare, but my paperwork would have to be sent to them after WLS - they would then automatically deny, then send to my dr.s office (wasn't covered at all last year) then my dr.s office would submit to my 2ndary BCBS - who does cover the sleeve - i was a good candidate because my BMI was 40, and i had diabetes, HB, sleep apnea

so..............i had to have the WLS without being "officially" approved - without knowing for sure if i was covered

i did feel pretty safe that i'd be covered so i proceeded to be sleeved

2 months PO, after all paperwork was sent here and there, I was approved by BCBS - WooHoo

fast forward.... from DOS 12/15/11 weight 235, i'm down 90 lbs to 145 lbs WooHoo

i look and feel great - been stalled past couple of months, trying to loose 10 more lbs so i can say i lost 100 lbs!!!

wish medicare could have accepted me to begin with - but i'm glad they are joining the 21rst century and now working with the sleeve too for you NEWBIES - good things DO happen to those who wait.

God Grant me Patience, Just Hurry About It

I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow and just got a call from my Dr. saying medicare decided to to cover it. He tried to talk me into a R&Y Bypass, but I'm not doing that. Good luck to everyone else, my journey here is over!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
