Oh my gosh I am so nervous. I just got word that my surgery for the sleeve was approved.

I got a lap-band on Aug. 2008 and my band is leaking so they are going to have to remove it. I decided to have the sleeve done rather than to be re-banded. I am just soooo nervous.

Can anyone tell me how severe the pain is after surgery? I know with the lapband I was up and moving around about 4 hours after surgery.

Also when were you able to return back to work? I drive a school bus 8 hours a day and just wondering? I have heard about 2 weeks down time is that about correct for everyone?

I had my sleeve done two days ago. I wanted to return to work today, but my wife said no. I will be at work on Monday though. There was very little pain for me at all. I was up and wandering around the hospital shortly after recovery. I haven't felt the need for any pain meds since I was released. In fact I feel so good that I just returned from grocery shopping on my own about 30 minutes ago.

Please don't worry. Everything will will be fine.

HI Mary!! Welcome to VST. I am also a revision patient from band to sleeve. I love my sleeve!! Best things I ever did for myself.

For me I did experience some pain and I also had nausea and even a little vomiting. Even with all that though I do NOT REGRET my decision what so ever. I'm so thankful I was given a second chance and here I am today sitting at goal and continuing to improve daily!

I took 3 weeks off from work and have a desk job. It was more than enough time, but it was nice that I didn't have to be on liquids while getting back because it can be a little tough remembering to sip sip sip all the time. I'm not sure if 2 weeks would be enough time for you, as I'm not sure all that entails being a bus driver. It does seem a little physically demanding, having to move that large steering wheel for hours and hours. But again, I'm not privvy to that.

Good luck to you!!!! You're going to be fine. Nervous is normal, it's totally ok. :)

Like favored mentioned above, we do have a section here specifically for band to sleeve revisions. Here's the link: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/13-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/

Sorry. I had to look a different way to find your post! :) I didn't use any pain meds after the first night. My legs hurt worse than my tummy because I was using my legs instead of stomach muscles to get up and down. Good luck on your revision!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
