I love body fortress brand. They have a whey isolate in vanilla with 30 g of Protein in one scoop. Also they have Cookies and cream and chocolate Peanut Butter protein with 26 g protein per scoop. I use 4 oz of lactose free fat free milk which adds a little more protein but I can get 60+ g of protein in 2 six oz shakes I think that's great. They taste amazing and best thing the isolate is only $22 and the reg whey is only $15! All at Walmart. They have more flavors like strawberry, and chocolate but I haven't tried them yet.

I have a whole shelf of Protein powders and, truthfully, every one of them disgusted me right after surgery. Suddenly I couldnt stand sweet stuff! My saving grace was broth, chicken and beef, low sodium versions. Decaf coffee and tea have become my go-to drinks, and I just discovered that putting a scoop of Protein powder in my decaf coffee is a good way to sneak in a little extra Protein each day! I'm loving that because it allows me to have more veggies and fruits in my diet.

Don't stock up on lots. Get 1 or 2 flavors of Protein Powder for early post-op. You can experiment with flavors later.

Good luck!!

Right after surgery I developed lactose intolerance and I had a hard time with all Protein powder the first few days except for unjury chicken flavor. I had to order it because it is not available in stores and I wish I would have got some before surgery. I recommend getting a few packets or a container pre-op.

Once my tummy settled down a bit, I also like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard in French Vanilla Creme, mixed with Soy Milk or sometimes with Starbucks Via Italian Roast Decaf. I buy it at GNC.

I'm using Chike, which has 28 grams of Protein and 4 grams of Fiber. I mix it with unsweetened vanilla almond breeze for additional protein. The taste is good, and they have several flavors but all I bought was chocolate because I couldn't imagine I wouldn't want chocolate. I was wrong.

Like others here, right after surgery I couldn't stand the taste of most shakes. I also developed a lactose intolerance! (which fortunately has resolved) Having said that the most helpful powders for me were "Nectar" which has 23 grams of Protein and just under 1 carb (if that). It comes in lots of flavors. I have the Vanilla Bean Torte but there's chocolate truffle and lots of fruit flavors. This one worked for me because I could mix it with soy milk or sometimes with lemon flavor crystal light and I could get it down. I also got unflavored unjury. Also Soups were VERY helpful. I was recommended these by my surgeon: Good Health

Good Health makes Soups, some completely liquid and some for later with a few little particles. Those I was given after 2 weeks. There's cream of chicken, Tomato cream of mushroom... a bunch. They have 15 grams of Protein and they went down pretty well (because they weren't sweet!! :-) and they were warm)

Good Health also makes Fruit drinks like lemonade, peach tea and drinks like cappuccinos and hot chocolate - lots of these can be made hot or cold

One more brand: Pro-Cal-100: can be a cold chocolate shake or a pudding, it's pretty rich and thick and a nice option to switch around texture

These products are all mostly 15 grams of protein, BTW.

The issue for me was that a lot of these gave me the runs - because of the lactose. But there's no way of knowing till after surgery. But I was able to consume the ones that gave trouble later! When my system settled down. (about six months out)

Like others have said, I would not do too much stocking up but just be ready to try different things after surgery. It can be a chore for a while but one thing I can say is you will get through it!!!! It's a small sacrafice and it's temporary. Be ready to be a little grossed out at times LOL But truly, it's okay! We all go through it and once past it we don't look back baby!!! Good luck with this and your surgery. Looking forward to reading more about your progress!!!!

Felicia's right, the Premiers are 11 oz...this is what I drink even though the ready-to-drink options are more expensive. It's the only one I've liked, and I've tried powders. And I only like the chocolate. I guess I'm a little picky! :/

Premier Protein in chocolate from Sam's or costco. Lately, I've gone back to drinking one of these a day. I was sickened by most everything else, especially right after surgery. The nectar worked for me for a few days but then it became too sweet. I would literally gag at even the smell of it and had to force it down. I could probably tolerate the Nectar now because my taste buds have settled down some.

Pure Protein. I get it from Walmart. Either frosty chocolate or chocolate Peanut Butter. If I blend it with enough ice and put in the fridge its just like a frosty and I use eggface recipe to make ice cream. Delicious.

My favorite is the Peanut Butter cup one. I don't even add the Peanut Butter cups because I think its enough without it.

I use Pro-Max from SEI Pharmaceuticals. I bought the chocolate and vanilla. That does well for a base. They would taste ... okay by themselves mixed in milk, but I add SF flavorings (SF Jello powders, Torani syrups, coffee) and fruit to mine.

I even made a pumpkin spice shake one time. Possibilities are endless.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
