I have always loved salad, maybe with too many of the wrong fixings- but nonetheless. I actually started eating salad about 3 to 4 wks out. My NUT didn't want us to start salad for 3 months, but I couldn't wait. I started out slow with just shredded cheese, romain lettuce, and tuna mixed with a little mayo and then just a weee bit of ranch dressing to stir it together. I honestly never had any issues with it, but I only did a couple bites at the start, then worked my way into more as my tummy allowed. Now, there are plenty of other things my sleeve completely rejects. I am now mostly lactose intolerant. Anything really rich/ sweet makes my stomach VERY upset, and stuff with lots of milk product also does the same thing. I can have a bite or two of say something depending on how potent the sugar content is, but that feeling of how upset my stomach gets is right there with me so I am always careful. The NUT says my lactose intolerance will likely go away over time, but that I have to expose my stomach back to these items slowly. I have mixed feelings on this. Sweets have been one of the huge things that have gotten me in trouble before, so in a way I kind of like not being able to eat them. Guess, I will just see what the journey brings.

i was also a salad lover, and still like it and have it, but I find I do not like iceberg lettuce at all because you get the feeling you cannot chew it well enough, so i had to switch to romaine or bibb, or spinach. you may find you don't like the foods you liked before!

When you get there, try romaine, butter, or bibb lettuce. I find I do not like to eat iceberg lettuce anymore. Seems too hard to chew or something. You really concentrate on chewing since you are sleeved, so you need something that is easier to chew.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
