Dr. Aceves, Incisions & Drain-Vanity Questions! Other Dr. Incisions Comments Ok Too.

Recommended Posts

So, I have done the IMPORTANT research and think I will be choosing Dr. Aceves, but now I am onto some of the vanity questions...It appears not all doctors are the same when it comes to incisions--size and whether they suture or glue. Of course, I prefer smaller incisions and it appears the glue works better for looks than stitches. I would prefer not to have a drain but will discuss with Dr. Any comments or comparison of Doctors would be interesting. Thanks,

I had Dr. Aceves and I had 5 incisions, one of which was for a drain. The drain is no big deal, helps the doc see if there is a leak (you drink blue dye on day after surgery) and mine didn't hurt. I am 14 months post-op and you can barely see my incisions. I think he must use glue on the skin because there were no skin sutures to remove, but there is tape covering them that needs to stay until it falls off on its own in 10 days-two weeks. You can see the scars if you know where to look but they have faded so much no one notices at the pool.

I was sleeved on 1/23 by Dr. Aceves. Frankly, the incisions were all much smaller than I anticipated and healed quickly. I agree that the drain was no problem. I barely noticed it. It is removed before you leave and allows them to check for leaks. Dr. Aceves and his staff were wonderful. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
